Patch 1.6.0.26 comes just a few weeks after Ubisoft released a massive update for the Assassin's Creed Unitywhich unlocked 60 FPS features on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game. While the title has always been playable on the consoles via backwards compatibility, it was limited by the restrictions of older hardware, meaning it still only ran at 30 FPS, even on current-gen consoles. Thankfully, those looking to jump back into the French Revolution and experience Paris 1789 as an assassin can do just that, now at a smooth 60 FPS.
Assassin's Creed Unity isn't the only older Ubisoft title to receive an unexpected update in the past year. Back in April 2025, the studio released an unexpected update for Far cry 4which added 60 FPS support for PlayStation 5 users. The patch wasn't made available for those on the Xbox Series X/S, but that's likely because the console has a built-in FPS boost feature, which has allowed the game to play at 60 FPS since 2021. Ubisoft has also been working on adding Steam achievements to many of its older titles, such as Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Far Cry 5and more.
The announcement of a 60 FPS update for Assassin's Creed Unity came as part of Ubisoft's road map for the future of the series, which also provided an update on the long-awaited Assassin's Creed Hex and confirmation that one of the worst kept secrets in gaming, a remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flagis officially underway. Ubisoft didn't reveal much, but it teased Assassin's Creed fans, telling them to keep their binoculars on the horizon, presumably hinting that further details will be shared soon.
