CD Projekt Red may have dropped its clearest hint yet so recently The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt content is on the way, with the company officially confirming the existence of an unannounced project currently underway. The stated timing of the mysterious project and the latest studio-related rumors both point to that company being centered on a new The Witcher 3 DLC.
Rumors of CDPR working on additional content for its hit 2015 open-world RPG have been circulating the industry for nearly a year. They started with a June 2025 report by Polish podcasters Rock and Boris, which claimed a third story DLC for The Witcher 3 was in development and planned for release over a decade after the game's launch. While no concrete content details were shared at the time, the report pointed to the DLC being targeted for a 2026 release.

CDPR confirms unannounced “gaming projects” coming in 2026
Adding more weight to these earlier claims is that CDPR parent company CD Projekt has now formally confirmed that one of its “as yet unannounced game projects” is currently slated for release in 2026. The note was included in the board's report on the company's operations for calendar year 2025. The document itself was attached to the group's Q3 2025 consolidated financial report, which is available on CD Projekt's investor website. The “game project” designation mentioned in the report is broad enough to potentially include a story expansion rather than an entirely new game. Meanwhile, the stated release timeline would match the original rumor of new content for The Witcher 3 ongoing for 2026.

During a separate January 2026 earnings call, CD Projekt joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said the company would have more information later this year about a new project from Fool's Theory, the Polish studio currently working on The Witcher 1 remake. Since the remake isn't expected to materialize until 2028, the 2026 announcement will likely center on another project. That's why some industry watchers have previously suspected that Fool's Theory is leading the development of the rumored third story DLC for The Witcher 3.
As with Heart of stone and Blood and winethe upcoming expansion is expected to be paid for. A 2026 launch would allow it to increase interest in The Witcher 4which could go gold around 2027. The upcoming sequel is possibly the main reason why CDPR chose to finance a new DLC for an 11-year-old game in the first place.
The Witcher 3 2026 DLC is unlikely to come to more than 3 or 4 platforms
The Witcher 3 was originally released in May 2015, so its original target platforms included PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Still, there are currently no indications that the rumored 2026 DLC is in the works for every single version of the game. CDPR's latest title, Cyberpunk 2077had a lot of trouble at launch due to the developer's insistence on shipping it for the latest generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Although CDPR eventually brought it to a much more polished technical state through many patches, Cyberpunk 2077The comeback story was only truly complete after the studio dropped last-gen console support after version 1.63, allowing its developers to focus on stronger hardware with future updates from mid-2023.
New Witcher 3 DLC could skip Nintendo Switch 2
Given that context, the chances of CDPR reversing course and returning to PS4 and Xbox One development three years later seem slim. The new one Witcher 3 DLC, if present, is therefore much more likely to be limited to PC and the current generation of consoles. What's less clear is exactly where the Nintendo Switch falls on this support spectrum. It hailed the next generation update for The Witcher 3 was not suitable for the original Switch, while CDPR never updated the game with a Switch 2 version after Nintendo launched its latest console in mid-2025. Therefore, the rumored 2026 DLC may not be available on Switch, or it could alternatively be launched as a Switch 2 add-on.
