Fortnite responds to accusations that the foundation must beat the ice king

Fortnite is accused of rigging Chapter 7, Season 2's rivalry between The Foundation and Ice King in Rock's favor, which has even prompted a response from the developers.

After what felt like the longest first season in Fortnite history, Chapter 7's second season finally went live yesterday, bringing us a major Looney Tunes collaboration, new weapons, and the usual tweaks and changes. Headlining the entire season is the new rivalry mechanic, which allows players to choose whether to side with the Foundation (played by The Rock) or the Ice King.

Choosing a side not only pits you against players on the other team, but also determines the final battle pass unlock, as the side with the most points at the end of the season gets a unique skin tailored to its leader. It's an interesting mechanic, but one that some players are already accusing of being rigged.

Fortnite briefly gave Team Foundation more points, leading to accusations of a rigged battle

Epic swears it was an accident

On Twitter, Fortnite insider and dataminer iFireMonkey pointed out that The Foundation's rivalry score was briefly multiplied by 1.266x, a modifier apparently intended for energy hours but activated early and only for the Rock's character. Given the rumors of a contract stipulating that Rock cannot be seen to lose, it immediately led to accusations that the contest was rigged.

Fortnite has once again proven why it is the future of video games

Epic Games has delivered one of Fortnite's best live events to date with the amazing Zero Hour.

I joined Team Foundation when I started the season, and we were already crushed by the Ice King…

While it's not hard to believe that Epic saw this and wanted to start things off a little more evenly, the official FortniteStatus claims it was a mistake, noting that the multiplier was intended for a Power Hour “when the showdown heats up” and is now back to normal. Not everyone believes that claim, considering it's the rock we're talking about, but that's what the team is going with.

At the moment, the multiplier seems to be back to normal, which likely means that the Ice King is back to winning fairly. Who knows if that will change as the season progresses and Power Hours are active, but it's a fun look just one day into the introduction of a major new mechanic.
