How to get Electabuzz in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

IN Pokemon FireRedElectabuzz can be found in the Power Plant, an easy-to-miss building located south of the Route 10 Pokemon Center, near the Rock Tunnel entrance. The only way to access the power plant is to use the HM03 Surf. This is also where trainers can find Zapdos, one of the three legendary birds of Kanto.

Electabuzz is a version exclusive to Pokemon FireRed and is not available in Pokemon LeafGreenexcept through trade. The Power Plant is the only place in the entire game where you can find this Pokemon.

How to get Electabuzz in Pokemon FireRed

To trap Electabuzz in Pokemon FireReddo the following:

  1. Continue through the game until you reach Fuchsia City.

  2. Get HM03 Surf from the Safari Zone and defeat Koga in the Fuchsia Gym to unlock the ability to surf outside of battle.

  3. Fly to Route 10 Pokemon Center, next to the Rock Tunnel entrance.

  4. Go all the way to the northernmost point of Route 10 and look for a break in the white fence bordering the water.

  5. In the gap, use HM03 Surf to start swimming.

  6. Follow the river south until you reach the area with Power plant.

  7. Defeat the trainer near the entrance and enter the power plant.

  8. Start walking around to trigger encounters until you come across Electabuzz.

Electabuzz has a 5% encounter rate in the powerhouse, making it somewhat difficult to encounter reliably.

If you place a level 35 Pokemon in the lead and use a Repel in the powerhouse, all wild encounters except Electabuzz will be filtered out, turning a 5% encounter rate into 100%.

Best Moveset and Nature for Electabuzz in Pokemon FireRed

Electabuzz is a pure electric type Pokémon with a high Sp. Atk and a low Attack stat. Since all electrical motion scales away from the Sp. Atk in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreenthis makes it easy to plan out your movement set and nature.

  • Thunder

  • Rain dance

  • Psychic / Fire Punch / Ice Punch

Rain Dance makes it so that Thunder never misses, making the 70 accuracy 100. Of course, if you're running a Rain team with another Pokemon that has Rain Dance, this can be replaced with a cover move.

Psychic takes advantage of Electabuzz's high Sp. Atk stat, and provides excellent coverage. If you have access to breeding, Fire Punch and Ice Punch are alternative cover moves that can make Electabuzz even more versatile, but it's completely optional.

Can you get Elekid in Pokemon FireRed?

Yes, you can. Elekid can be obtained by breeding a female Electabuzz with a compatible Pokemon (human egg group) such as another Electabuzz or a ditto at Pokemon Day Care on Four Island. You can only get Elekid after you unlock the National Pokedex, as it is considered a Gen 2 Pokemon, which only becomes available after the game.

Can you get Electivire in Pokemon FireRed?

No, you can't. Electivire is the trade evolution of Electabuzz that was introduced in Gen 4. FRLG only goes up to Gen 1 in the base game and to Gen 2 when you unlock the National Dex. Any evolutions introduced in later generations are not possible to achieve in Fire red and leaf green.
