No, you don't need to shop to get all the Eeveelutions

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen players looking to collect all three Generation 1 Eevee evolutions may not realize they can do so without trading with their friends. There are some Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Pokemon can only be obtained through trades, such as the version's exclusive Pokemon or Pokemon that evolve only through trading. And then there are Pokemon that players are effectively barred from acquiring in their playthrough, unless they manage to make a trade.

The Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Appetizers are a good example of that. After players choose Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle, the other two Pokémon become unavailable unless they trade them into their game. Some might assume the same would be the case with Eevee's evolutions within Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen since there is only one Eevee in the game, but there is actually a way to get all Eeveelutions without trading.

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen on Switch claim to have all 151 originals — including Mew?

The upcoming Nintendo Switch ports of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen raise some big questions about Mew.

How to get more Eevees in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

Bringing in an Eevee Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen is a matter of going to Celadon City's mansion and taking the Poke Ball from the table on the top floor. Then just collect a Fire Stone, Water Stone or Thunder Stone to evolve Eevee into a Flareon, Vaporeon or Jolteon. Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Evolution Stones can be found in various places in the games, but they can also be bought in Celadon City. Now the trick is to get two more Eevees, which will require players to defeat the Elite Four and get to the endgame content.

Once players reach Four Island, they must leave their Eevee/Flareon/Jolteon/Vaporeon and a Ditto at the nursery there to get an egg with an Eevee in it. Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen players can catch a ditto on routes 13, 14, 15, Cinnabar Island's Pokemon Mansion, and Cerulean Cave, although they are relatively hard to find. Ditos are super useful when it comes to Pokemon breeding.

With an Eevee Egg in tow, players must go over 9,000 steps, and it will hatch. Then they can use one of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen's Evolution Stones to get another one of the Eeveelutions, rinse and repeat.

Most of the Eeveelutions are not available in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

Unfortunately for Pokémon fans who prefer some of Eevee's later evolutions, Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon are the only ones available to catch in the game. Umbreon and Espeon are not available in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen (without trade from others Pokémon game, which is not possible in the Switch versions as of this writing), nor Leafeon, Glaceon or Sylveon.

It rumbles like the second Game Boy Advance Pokémon game will eventually come to Nintendo Switch at some point down the road. If that happens, it might be possible to bring in Umbreon and Espeon Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. Any Pokemon Home support can also make it possible. But for now, the only Eeveelutions that Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen players can get on Switch are Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon.
