Pokémon fans have spotted a small detail on the paw of one of the Pokemon winds and waves newbie, Pombon. The small detail continues a Pokémon series trend, and highlights the new Pokemon winds and waves starter Fire typing.
Pokemon Day arrived with a big splash, with many reveals during the Pokemon Presents stream. The most exciting thing for the majority of fans was probably the reveal of Pokemon winds and wavesthe new mainline Gen 10 games that will bring the series into the future. Even if Pokemon winds and waves won't be released until sometime in 2027, fans are already sifting through the material that has been released and noticed a special detail with Pombo.
A new Pokemon game has been announced, but it's not what you'd expect
A brand new Pokemon game is coming soon, but it's probably something most fans of the series didn't see coming.
Pokémon fans have pointed out that there is a small easter egg on Pombo, the new Fire-type Puppy Pokémon in the Pokemon winds and waves. Very little has been shown of the dog Pokémon so far, but a sharp-eyed fan named kevinthedot noticed a small detail on the Pokémon's paw, which is partially raised in his concept art. The pom pom's paw pads are visible, and if you look closely, there is a connection between the mid toe pad and the main pad on the sole of the foot. Although many people probably wouldn't even notice, this connection makes the paw pads strongly resemble the Japanese kanji character for fire.
Unfortunately, during the video trailer, fans don't get a look at the underside of Pombon's feet, so all they can go off of is the concept art. Still, the clever little detail has charmed Pokémon fandom, which already seems pretty taken with the new Fire-type starter in general. Fans have said the Easter egg on the paw pad is adorable, while the detail has prompted some Pokémon trainers to imagine tracking elusive Pokémon in their footsteps. However, quite a few players have taken the opportunity to hope that the presence of the kanji on the dog's foot does not mean that it will become bipedal later to show off the details, as many Pokémon fans have been upset when four-legged Pokémon have become bipedal and more humanoid after evolving.
Longtime fans of the series familiar with Japanese may recall that this is not the first time kanji characters have been used in the franchise. One of the earliest examples was the Fire Blast attack, which appeared as the kanji for “big” when used, which is part of the attack's Japanese name. Another example of this already happened in the sixth generation of Pokémon game with Pyroar. Besides the male Pyroar's mane looking like flames, the yellow part also makes up the same “big” kanji. Mega Pyroar, which was first added to the franchise recently with Pokemon Legends: ZAcontinues the trend by putting the “big” and “fire” kanji together on his bigger man. While most of these little details are lost on players who don't understand Japanese or Chinese writing, it's just part of the series' penchant for puns and Easter eggs.
It will still be quite a while before players get to choose their new starter Pokemon winds and wavesbut thankfully there is no shortage of it Pokémon project for fans to enjoy, either right now or in the near future. Many players are currently experiencing Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen for the first time now that it's on the Nintendo Switch family of consoles, while others eagerly await Pokemon Pokopialaunched at the beginning of March. Add to that a wide range of events, bonuses and new additions to existing ones Pokémon games, such as Mew joining Pokemon sleepand there's plenty to keep players busy while they wait for the new adventures of the main series.
