The strongest character in each arc, ranked

The Jujutsu Kaisen franchise has always placed a lot of value on strength and the pursuit of it. In fact, the very concept of strength itself is one of the central components of the story, as it speaks to how, at the very highest level, they are isolated from everyone else because of how special they are.

As such, there have been a few characters that have held the title of strongest at one point or another in the Jujutsu Kaisen. So, in this article, let's go through each major arc of the series to see who the most powerful person was in that specific arc and why they were greater than their peers.

Gojo was the strongest in the Prequel series

Arc: Cursed Child Arc

By the time of the prequel arc of the series, Gojo had been at the top of the game for many years, so he was still the strongest wizard in the world. Although he played a more background role and had to deal with the Night Parade of 100 Demons, there was no doubt that he was the strongest, even in an arc with Yuta Okkotsu; another special class that had even greater cursed energy reserves than Gojo himself.

Gojo differs at the beginning of the franchise

Arc: Terrifying Womb

In the first arc of Jujutsu KaisenGojo is introduced as the most powerful sorcerer of modern times, whose birth was so monumental that it forced the creation of exceptionally powerful Cursed Spirits to keep the balance in the world. Although Sukuna is also introduced in the Fearsome Womb arc, his lack of strength due to only being at a fraction of his power leads to him being dominated by Gojo, making the Six Eyes wizard the strongest in this arc.

Mahito was the series' first major villain

Arc: vs. Mahito Arc

As the most sadistic and cruel villain in history, Mahito is particularly hated by many fans. However, there's no denying that he's one of the strongest characters in the story, and in the arc where Yuji and Nanami are sent to deal with him, he more than proves his incredible strength thanks to his broken technology and overpowered Domain Expansion. However, due to the unique situation of Yuji and Sukuna, Mahito is defeated, although it is not until much later that he is brought down for good.

Gojo nearly killed a special class with one attack

Arc: Kyoto Goodwill Event

When the Kyoto Goodwill Event took place, the forces of Tokyo and Kyoto Jujutsu High were possessed by powerful Cursed Spirits, including the Special Grade Curse, Hanami. Although the students, especially Yuji and Todo, definitely held their own, they would have perished against the special grade if it weren't for the intervention of Gojo, who nearly took down the powerful villain with a single Hollow Purple, cementing himself as the greatest wizard in the world.

Megumi proved her potential against a special grade

Arc: Death Painting Arc

When it comes to Megumi's potential, it was teased that he could eventually surpass Gojo himself, though fans never got to see this for themselves. However, as Yuji and Nobara reached new heights with their Black Flash in this arc, Megumi was left to face a finger bearer herself. Although it was a difficult battle, Megumi finally expelled the Special Grade Cursed Spirit on his own, using an incomplete domain expansion that showed how talented and strong he truly was.

Gojo woke up quite early in his life

Arc: Hidden Inventory

During the events of Gojo's past, Toji was actually the strongest character in the world due to his Heavenly Restriction, which was how he was able to defeat both Gojo and Geto. However, due to his failure to permanently kill Gojo, the Six Eyes wizard finally awoke, learned his strongest techniques, and understood the very essence of Cursed Energy, leading him to become the undisputed strongest character of the modern era.

Sukuna showed tremendous strength even at 15 fingers

Arc: Shibuya Incident

The Shibuya incident saw the sealing of Gojo right as the arc began, so he was completely off the table. Eventually, Sukuna reincarnated with much of his strength, leading him to go on an absolute rampage across Shibuya, defeating some of the most powerful characters in the setting despite not even having full power. In his brief appearance, Sukuna destroys Jogo and Mahoraga, confirming exactly why he has been feared for all these centuries.

Sukuna's strongest form was realized with Megumi

Arc: The Culling Game

Although he was already the strongest character in the setting, Sukuna reached his strongest state in the Culling Game when he took over Megumi's body. Due to being powered by 15 fingers and having access to the Ten Shadows technology, the King of Curses became much more terrifying than he had ever been before, as he managed to use his massive Cursed Energy reserves to summon the strongest version of the Shadows that allowed him to kill powerful wizards like Yurozu.

Sukuna proved to be the strongest of all time

Arc: Shinjuku Showdown

Yuji is the strongest in the sequel series

Arch: Modulo

Module picks up the story of Jujutsu Kaisen about 80 years in the future. In the final battle with Sukuna, Yuji awakened many techniques and finally began to hone his cursed energy, and since then he has had 80 years to perfect everything he had learned, a time that even Gojo and Sukuna did not have. Because of this, it's reasonable to assume that Yuji is stronger now than either of them had ever been.
