A new leak from the ESRB indicates that a Resident Evil 5 the remake reveal could very well be right around the corner. Capcom has been steadily working its way through Resident Evil series of remakes alongside the franchise's new releases, and Resident Evil 5 may soon join the list.
There is a lot to be excited about Resident Evil fandom right now, med Resident Evil Requiem will be released later in February 2026. The upcoming game will return the classic series protagonist Leon S. Kennedy, as well as newcomer Grace Ashcroft, and will take players back to the ruined city of Raccoon City. Outside of the new entry, fans have been wondering if the leaks are accurate Resident Evil Code: Veronica will finally get the remake treatment, or if the franchise will first tackle Resident Evil 5. This new leak may hint at the answer.
Rumor: Resident Evil 0 Remake will be released in 2028
A new rumor suggests that the remake of the popular Resident Evil 0 will be released in 2028, giving fans some fresh details about it.
Resident Evil 5 Remake leaked by ESRB
On February 10, a listing was discovered on the Entertainment Software Ratings Board for Resident Evil 5 on Xbox Series X/S. Although the original game is available for the Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility, there is no native version of the game for that system. While most of the playlist is a description of what qualifies Resident Evil 5 for a Mature rating, a curious part is a mention of in-game purchases. While the original Resident Evil 5 had additional purchases in the form of DLC, since the launch of Resident Evil 5 Gold Editionthese have been included in the base game. Other Resident Evil remakes have also included microtransactions, lending further credence to the notion that this rating is a full-fledged remake of Resident Evil 5.
Although some leaks have indicated that Code Veronica is next on the remake list, there are some other tips like Resident Evil 5 may have crossed the line. The actor with voice and motion capture who portrayed Resident Evil 5 Sheva Alomar co-star Eva La Dare has teased on Twitter that something exciting is coming in March that she can't talk about yet, using a number of Resident Evil hashtags in the tweet, including one for RE 5 and another that refers to Resident Evil30th anniversary. Notably, Sheva has not appeared in a game since then Resident Evil 5. However, it is worth noting that before Resident Evil remakes have not brought back the original cast, so if she does return, Sheva would be the first exception to the rule.
Although a listing has so far only been found for an Xbox version, a remake would most likely launch for PlayStation and PC as well. A PlayStation State of Play has been announced for February 12, potentially revealing a Resident Evil 5 remake. Players won't have to wait long to find out, but they should take this leak with a grain of salt. Resident Evil 5 in particular has a mixed reputation. While many fans loved playing it with a co-op partner, the original partner AI received a lot of negative feedback. There has also been controversy surrounding the setting of Africa and the enemies who fought there. There will likely be some effort to convince players that the problems they remember with the game have been fixed or changed, and with Resident Evil 5 Since it's a major franchise entry, it's highly unlikely that a remake will be shadow-released. Although the upcoming State of Play reveals the remake, it may be a while before it actually reaches players.

If Resident Evil Code: Veronica or Resident Evil 5 get the remake treatment first, it's very likely that both are in development. Remaking the older games in the series has helped maintain Resident Evil content flows, giving players a chance to return to the classics in a reworked light between new major entries. Add a new one Resident Evil movie coming later in 2026 and ongoing Resident Evil Survival Unit mobile games, and there is no shortage of survival horror from Capcom.
