Amazon has officially cast Atreus in its upcoming God of War series

Amazon has officially revealed that young actor Callum Vinson will portray Atreus, son of Kratos, in the upcoming adaptation of PlayStation's God of war. The series seems to skip over the original God of war game set in Greece, instead focusing on the events of the 2018 title that revived the franchise. While some fans have expressed disappointment with the decision to start with one of the franchise's later entries, 2018's God of war served as a starting point for many players who had not played the original games.

Atreus was first introduced in 2018 God of war as the son of Kratos, and he plays an important role in the main story of the game. Despite being Kratos' son, Atreus and Kratos don't start out on a good relationship. Kratos seems to have largely kept his distance from the boy, though the two are forced to come together after the passing of Atreus' mother, Laufey. The relationship between these two characters changes dramatically during their journey, making the casting of Atreus just as important as Kratos. Atreus was originally played by actor Sunny Suljic, whose appearance in God of War Ragnarök earned him a nomination for Best Performance at The Game Awards 2022.

Callum Vinson will portray Atreus in Amazon's God of War series

Amazon and Sony have revealed that actor Callum Vinson will portray Atreus in the upcoming film God of war adaptation set to stream on Prime Video. The young actor already has an impressive line of credits to his name, as he has appeared in projects like Poker Face, Chuckyand Long bright river. He has also recently wrapped up in a series called Crystal Lakewhere he portrays a young version of horror icon Jason Voorhees. Playing Atreus will likely be different from anything the actor has done before, as he will be tasked with portraying a young god who is paired with one of the game's most notable characters.

It was also recently revealed that Amazon has chosen actor Ryan Hurst to portray Kratos in God of warwhich came as something of a surprise to fans of the franchise. Ryan Hurst has appeared in God of war franchise before, when he took on the role of Thor in Ragnarök. Hurst has also achieved quite a bit of success outside of video games, appearing in major productions such as Remember the Titans, Sons of Anarchyand The Walking Dead. In a post on Twitter, Christopher Judge, who portrayed Kratos in the 2018s God of war and the 2022s God of War Ragnarökcongratulated Ryan Hurst on getting the part.

While some fans have expressed their doubts about God of wars starting point, many gamers seem enthusiastic about Amazon's casting decision. It was recently revealed that actors Max Parker, Teresa Palmer, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Mandy Patinkin have joined the cast as Heimdall, Sif, Thor and Odin. Many gamers are eager to know who will portray Freya in the upcoming series, although no official announcement has been made yet.

There's no way to know what the final product will be, but Amazon has had great success with its adaptation of Fall-outwhich just finished its second season on the popular streaming platform.
