I'm sure we all have something that we use to justify the fifty-first new game we buy during the many Steam sales that pile up on top of our exhaustive backlog – what's the harm? It's the same price as a cup of coffee. But once you start going past $10 it gets muddier and suddenly the coffee analogy falls apart. What is the damage? It's just one batch of lattes for the entire cafe.
Thankfully, u/Brave_Ad_9399 has put together a Chrome extension that converts all Steam prizes into different items. Above all, a Big Mac.
The Witcher 3, or five large Macs?
Let's say you want to buy The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt; next to the price, SteamBite adds a small counter, “5 Big Mac.” It doesn't sound so bad when you put it that way. Or maybe you want the new Nioh 3 Digital Deluxe Edition. £94.99 sounds steep, but how about 23 meal deals? Okay, still steep.
And yes, I said meal deals. You can exchange currency and comparison items depending on your region. But if you're not thrilled with the available options, you can always add your own custom value. I did a Monster item comparison (with battery emoji, because the sweet, sweet, sour taste inside a double-A is to die for), with the typical corner store price. None of that 2 pound nonsense.
By this measure, Nioh 3 Digital Deluxe Edition will set you back 58 jars of monsters — really puts things into perspective, huh? Doom: The Dark Ages, on the other hand, enjoying a steep 67 percent discount (not) for id Software's 35th anniversary, is just 14 cans of Monster.
It's a nice little extension. The next time I want to spend £100 on a Steam sale, and I'm met with the cart full of Monster cans instead of the usual price tag, I might take a step back and save my wallet the pain, but unfortunately that doesn't work on big hardware purchases like the Steam Deck; still I tapped the numbers. The OLED is worth 290 cans of Monster.
