Final Fantasy's first Nendoroids include a Chocobo and FF14's Scions

Given the sheer amount of history to draw from, the designs of some of its characters, and fan demand, it's a minor miracle that there has somehow never been a Final Fantasy Nendoroid. That's finally about to change as Good Smile has finally revealed their first ever Final Fantasy Nendoroids.

Final Fantasy is finally getting Nendoroids

It's not off to a slow start either, as while none of them are available for purchase yet, five Final Fantasy Nendoroids have been revealed in one fell swoop. The most immediately recognizable of the quintet is Chocobo. Final Fantasy games aren't set in a shared universe, but Chocobos have been a part of almost every game in the series, and not an immediate choice for a Nendoroid because they're small and adorable, lending themselves to the chibi-style design of Nendoroids.

The specific Final Fantasy game getting the most love is Final Fantasy 14, where three of the MMORPG's Scions are transformed into Nendoroids. Unlike the other figures showcased, Good Smile only has images of Scion Nendoroids rather than a 3D model like Chocobo. Y'shtola, G'raha Tia and Estinien have been selected for Nendoroid service, although the lack of 3D models suggests it will be a while before we get our hands on them.

Rounding out what will likely be the first of many waves of Final Fantasy Nendoroids now that the genie is out of the bottle is a figure of the warrior of lightseemingly based on the character from the original game, so a very deep cut. Much like Chocobos, but not appearing as often, the Warrior of Light has appeared in many Final Fantasy games, taking on a different appearance each time they reappear.

Nothing for Final Fantasy 7 or Final Fantasy 9, at least not yet

A quick look at the responses to Good Smile's Final Fantasy messages confirms that those of you who have been waiting years for this are very happy with what we're getting. There are millions of Final Fantasy 14 players out there, so Nendoroids based on its Scions will naturally be a hit and will fly off Good Smile's virtual shelves when pre-orders open.

Every Mainline Final Fantasy Game, Ranked

We rank all 16 numbered chapters in Final Fantasy's incredible history. These are just our opinions, but we know – we're playing with fire here.

It's a little strange that Good Smile hasn't leaned on the usual suspects for their first Final Fantasy Nendoroids. I would have bet my house on Cloud being one of the first, and then my car on Sephiroth going with him. No love for Final Fantasy 9 is also somewhat surprising, though perhaps Square Enix is tired of everyone believing its non-existent remake is coming every time the game gets official merch.
