All the Original Power Rangers, Ranked From Worst to Best

Power Rangers is an extremely popular American adaptation of the Japanese Super Sentai series. The American series would start nearly two decades after the original, in the early ’90s, but would gain traction just as quickly. The very first iteration of the Power Rangers is known as The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and remains one of the most popular arcs in the franchise to this day. MMPR features several iconic “teenagers with attitude”, but not all of them were created equal.

During the second season of the show, three of the Power Rangers’ actors failed to renegotiate their contracts and were subsequently replaced. This caused many fans to direct their feelings of ingratitude towards the newer additions. Although this is mostly irrelevant, many believe the heavy scrutiny affected their overall appearances. That said, there is some question about who is the best of the best, even among the original Mighty Morphin Rangers.

Aisha Campbell Suffered the Worst Out of the Add-On Rangers

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 2, Episode 22, “The Ninja Encounter, Part 1”

Mighty Morphin Aisha Campbell Image via Hasbro

Aisha Campbell is the second Yellow Ranger following the departure of Trini Kwan. She, like the other Add-On rangers, had minor roles on the team before her official Ranger Debut. Unfortunately, other than saving an innocent child, Aisha doesn’t really have the feats to compete with her much more popular predecessor. She is extremely intelligent and talented at martial arts, but not more so than any other member of her team.

9 Strongest White Rangers In Power Rangers

These are the strongest characters ever to earn the title of White Ranger, granting them powerful abilities and making them formidable Power Rangers.

Campbell’s only real notable quality is her love for animals. She is also considerably more outgoing than Trini, but some argue this might not have been a great thing. Kimberly, the original Pink Ranger, is also incredibly outgoing, causing their personalities to occasionally clash on screen. Campbell might have been the de facto Yellow Ranger, if only she had debuted first.

Katherine Hillard Simply Couldn’t Compete With the Original Pink Ranger

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 3, Episode 17, “A Ranger Catastrophe, Part 1”

Mighty Morphin Katherine Hillard Image via Hasbro

Ketherine Hillard is the second Pink Ranger, and one of the longest serving Pink Rangers in the franchise. The character’s main issue is that many see her as the Zeo Pink ranger rather than the Mighty Morphin Pink Ranger. She has many incredible feats and abilities, but it’s extremely hard to compare to Kimberly Hart. That said, Hillard far outperforms her predecessor in subsequent seasons.

Interestingly enough, Rita Repulsa once turned Hillard into a terrifying monster, which is how she first got truly acquainted with the rangers. The Ranger would also have a notable romance with team leader Tommy Oliver and the pair would later marry in the canon. Hillard does great as a Pink Ranger overall, she just can’t compete as the Mighty Morphin’ Pink Ranger. Thankfully, she gets other opportunities to really shine.

Adam Park Is An Unforgettable Addition – But Can’t Compared to His Predecessor in MMPR

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 2, Episode 22, “The Ninja Encounter, Part 1”

Mighty Morphin Adam Park Image via Hasbro

Adam Park is another incredible example of a Ranger who does extremely well in subsequent seasons, but can’t hold a candle to the original. One of the main reasons for this is the change in power structure once Tommy Oliver fully assumes the role of White Ranger. Once that happens, Park falls even further down the totem pole and the Black Ranger goes from second in command, to third. This might not seem like a big deal, but fans of the Ranger role were somewhat upset.

10 Best Red Power Rangers, Ranked

The Red Rangers are usually the strongest and most capable members of every Power Rangers team, but that isn’t always the case.

Park would go on to join several other iterations of the team, where he would transition to the Green Ranger role. Needless to say, Park functions much better as a Green Ranger than in his previous position. That said, Park would return as the Black Ranger to lead the Retro Ranger team during Operation Overdrive.

7

Trini Kwan is the Definitive Yellow Ranger

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1, Episode 1, “Day of the Dumpster”

Trini Kwan

Trini Kwan is the original Yellow Ranger and one of the least-popular original members of the team. Her character has even been killed off in canon, one of the few Rangers to ever die. The actress who played Trini tragically passed away in a car accident, resulting in her character passing away in the series’ storyline, as well. Kwan, as the Yellow Ranger, would heroically sacrifice herself to save Billy Cranston.

Her softspoken nature was somewhat off-putting at first, but fans would grow to miss her demeanor after her replacement. Her intelligence has also been shown to even rival Billy’s at several points in the show. In canon, the character’s daughter was the most recent to take on the role of Yellow Mighty Morphin’ Ranger, completing her legacy.

Rocky DeSantos is One of the Only Red Rangers to Not Lead the Team

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 2, Episode 22, “The Ninja Encounter, Part 1”

Mighty Morphin Rocky DeSantos Image via Hasbro

Rocky DeSantos is the second Red Morphin Ranger and one of the only Red Rangers in history who hasn’t led a team. He is similar to Jason Lee Scott in many ways, but with mixes of Tommy Oliver thrown in. Many fans have correctly stated that Rocky works much better as the Blue Zeo Ranger than the role he had in the first series, like his Add-On companions. That said, DeSantos is decidedly more popular.

The Second Red Morphin Ranger might not be the team’s leader, but he certainly becomes the heart. The actor clearly took many of fans’ criticisms to heart and did his best to maintain his own identity. DeSantos would later return with the Legendary Rangers as part of Power Rangers Ninja Steel where he would once again don the Red Morphin Ranger suit, but many think it should’ve been the Blue Zeo suit.

Billy Cranston Is One of the Smartest Rangers in the Franchise’s History

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1, Episode 1, “Day of the Dumpster”

Billy Cranston (1)-1

Billy Cranston is likely one of the smartest Rangers in the franchise’s history. Even after his tenure as a Power Ranger completed, he continued to help Zordon with many of the Zords and gadgets the team regularly uses. He is one of the only humans to fully understand Zord tech and might’ve done remarkable things if he wasn’t forced to fully retire. During his time helping the Zeo Rangers, he was struck with a rapid aging virus which forced him to leave.

30 Years Later, the Original Power Rangers Are Reuniting in 2026 for a New Project

The classic Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers team reunites in a brand-new way over three decades after kicking off a cultural phenomenon.

Interestingly enough, Billy was originally planned to be the true identity of the Turbo Phantom Ranger. This would never actually come to fruition and the Ranger’s canon identity remains a mystery. That said, many fans have decided to place Billy in the role as a headcanon, since that’s what the showrunner intended. Intellect aside, Billy remains one of the most popular and beloved Blue Rangers to this day.

4

Zachary Taylor Is Jason Lee Scott’s Dedicated Second-In-Command

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1, Episode 1, “Day of the Dumpster”

Zack Taylor Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Black Ranger

Zack Taylor is one of the most iconic original rangers, with one of the most prevalent personalities of the group. He served as Jason Lee Scott’s dedicated second-in-command and would often take command if Scott was injured or incapacitated. The character is a master martial artist and even famously created his own fighting style. The actor would later return along with many members of his old team in Power Rangers Once & Always.

Compared to his companions, Zack hasn’t starred in nearly as many sequels or spin-offs. This is likely one of the reasons the character remains so iconic – less is more – he doesn’t have as many appearances. While this likely has more to do with the actor’s contract than anything else, it adds to the character’s mystery.

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1, Episode 1, “Day of the Dumpster”

Kimberly Hart

Kimberly Ann Hart is one of the most iconic Pink Rangers of all time. Her personality held the team together for an incredibly long time, and she stayed on even after several of her fellow original Rangers had left. Interestingly enough, she would appear after her time as the Pink Ranger, but never in another Ranger role. She spent some time dating Tommy Oliver, the White Ranger, but would break up with him during Zeo via a letter.

Other than her somewhat disjointed romance with Tommy, Kimberly remains one of the most iconic Pink Rangers of all time. Her gymnastics skills are second to none, and she regularly uses them to her advantage during a fight. She even manages to take on a future Pink Ranger iteration un-morphed, but she was possessed during that time. Needless to say, when fans think of the original Pink Ranger, they think of Kimberly.

2

Tommy Oliver Is the Original Sixth Ranger, and a Fan-Favorite

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1, Episode 17, “Green Within Evil, Part 1”

tommy-oliver-white-ranger Cropped

Tommy Oliver is the Mighty Morphin Green and then White Ranger. He serves as the second-in-command after Jason, then the leader following his departure from the team. Oliver is largely considered one of the greatest Rangers of all time, but most of that has to do with his long tenure rather than any specific feats during Power Rangers. Yet, he does take on the entire team as the Green Ranger several times.

Power Rangers: All of Tommy Oliver’s Ranger Forms, Ranked

Many Power Rangers fans consider Tommy Oliver the greatest ranger of all time. He has taken many forms throughout the series, each completely unique.

Aside from leading the team, Oliver is one of its superior strategists. He is incredibly iconic, but many fans prefer him leading the team during Zeo. Tommy is the original sixth ranger, and an incredible fighter. That said, these qualities don’t automatically make him the best of the best when it comes to the Mighty Morphin Rangers. Nevertheless, there is a fairly close margin between him and the greatest of the original team.

1

Jason Lee Scott Is THE Red Ranger and One of the Most Iconic in the Franchise

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1, Episode 1, “Day of the Dumpster”

Close-up of Jason Lee Scott holding a coin in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Jason Lee Scott is the original Red Ranger and undoubtedly one of the most iconic Rangers of all time. He is someone who fans continuously reference when they talk about the show, and he is easily among the franchise’s most popular leaders. He would make several returns throughout the series, but not nearly as much as Oliver. However, the infrequency of his return appearances has made them all the more valuable.

Overall, Jason Lee Scott isn’t just the best of the Mighty Morphin Rangers, but he is one of the greatest Rangers of all time. He was the first to prototype many iconic Ranger generalizations, and an extremely dedicated member of the team. While he would later leave the team to attend a Peace Conference, Scott has made it clear that his role with the Power Rangers is far from over.
