Update 1, 19:28 GMT: As if it wasn't already clear enough that the second Rayman game is some sort of anniversary release, Gematsu has just discovered that the Australian Classification board has rated Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition for Switch and PS5. Given the timing and nature of the release, it is very likely that this is the second project that has been worked on.
A reliable gaming insider has backed up rumors of a Rayman Legends remake, suggesting that the second Rayman game in development will be released “very, very soon.”
Ubisoft's recent restructuring, which led to the cancellation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and several other games, sent Rayman fans into a bit of a frenzy. Since the series already seems low priority for Ubisoft compared to giants like Far Cry and Assassin's Creed, many of us were afraid that the vegetable thingamajig's next game might not see the light of day.
However, that doesn't seem to be the case, as several insiders have actually shared some interesting information about the two rumored Rayman projects. One of these is apparently a Rayman Legends remake of some sort (don't get me started on how weird that is), but the other still remains a bit of a mystery, aside from some information an insider just shared.
Rayman's Next Game Is Apparently Coming 'Very Very Soon'
It sounds like it will be tied to his anniversary
As Twitter user Shamaboy11 pointed out, Insider Gaming recently released a new episode of their podcast, Insider Gaming Weekly, where the team talked about the current state of Ubisoft. During the podcast, a viewer asked Insider Gaming Editor-in-Chief Tom Henderson about the two rumored Rayman games, codenamed Iceman and Steambot.
Rayman 2 would be worth breaking my remake rule for
Despite a general distaste for remakes, I'd be willing to make an exception for Rayman 2.
Henderson responded by backing up the recent rumor that Steambot is a remake of Rayman Legends, but noted that the other game, Iceman, is scheduled to be released first. In fact, Iceman will apparently launch “very, very soon” as it is apparently tied to Rayman's anniversary, which could mean September.
Iceman will be released before then, and very, very soon. There's a certain anniversary for the game coming up for the game so you can kind of put two and two together with that. – Tom Henderson
It's unclear exactly what Iceman is from Henderson's comments, but if I had to guess, it's some sort of anniversary release, possibly of the first three games in the series. Given how recently the Rayman projects began development, I find it hard to believe that a brand new game of any kind will be ready to play this year, making a re-release of some sort seem more likely.
It's just speculation on my part, as Iceman could really be anything made to celebrate Rayman's anniversary. We'll have to wait and see what Ubisoft announces, which sounds like it will be soon if the project is supposed to be tied to 2026.
