LEGO and Nintendo have a strong history of collaborating together. Some of Nintendo's most notable mascots and franchises have been given the LEGO treatment, and Mario has featured in plenty. Since Mario is the face of Nintendo, this only makes sense. There are already a lot of exciting Nintendo LEGO sets set to be released this year, but it's not all good news for fans. Several Nintendo sets are also being retired for good, and many of them feature the lovable plumber.
It's not unusual for LEGO to remove specific sets. It does, however, put a ticking clock on some pieces that fans may have been waiting to buy but haven't yet. Newcomers like the recently announced Legend of Zelda LEGO sets have been making waves, but Nintendo lovers with a special affinity for Mario will want to act fast before a handful of sets are taken out of rotation. Mario is one of the most beloved video game characters of all time, and these sets can be the perfect addition to a die-hard fan's collection.

This Super Mario World The LEGO set was already released in October 2024, but the latter half of July will mark the end of its run. This set, in particular, is a really good option for long-time fans of the games, as it features a pixelated Mario riding on Yoshi's back. It looks like it was pulled straight out Super Mario World. This entry in the long-running franchise is a series favorite for many fans, but those who have been waiting for the right time to finally purchase this set won't have much longer to decide. Yes, this LEGO set will still be around for a few months. But with the shrinking window of time, it may be best to act sooner, rather than later. This particular set has the potential to turn into a sought after collector's item after retirement.

This is one of the cutest sets to retire in the summer. As the title suggests, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi go head-to-head in a kart race. The carts can even launch shells to aim at balloons included in the set. So not only is it a great item for a collection, it can be turned into a fun little game. The Mario Kart games make up one of the best-selling racing franchises, and this LEGO set brings a fun little dose of that to a collector's shelf.

Adventures with Interactive LEGO Mario & Standard Kart is definitely not the last Nintendo set to retire, but it is one of the last Mario options on the list. Like the Baby Mario vs. Baby Luigi set, this build sets Mario Kart in the limelight. There have been several sets based on the racing series, such as Mario Kart Blue Shell LEGO set. This one is not only a must have for Mario fans, but for a long time Mario Kart lover. Mario as a character may not be a personal favorite, but hardcore Mario Kart fans in general could benefit from this set. Thankfully, those interested in this build have more time to think about than the other three mentioned. Adventures with Interactive LEGO Mario & Standard Kart will be available for the rest of the year, so at least that's a silver lining.

Mario isn't the only Nintendo mascot to be part of these set retirements. Set with some of the best Nintendo characters, like Bowser, Peach, Wario, Toad and even icons like Piranha Plant will leave forever. What the best sets are is subjective, but builds like Prince Floran & Castle Bowser and the Piranha Plant Power-Up Pursuit are highlights that many collectors will want to look out for.
Seeing so many Nintendo LEGO sets being retired this year may be a letdown, but the good news is that there are plenty of fresh and exciting builds lined up to take their place. LEGO's 2026 lineup is packed with great options, even outside of Nintendo's franchise. Whether you're on a mission to collect all things Mario or simply want to find a great set to dive into, there are plenty of choices that won't be around much longer.
