ZA Fan successfully recreates Taunie's weird curry

Listen. I am one of curry's staunchest defenders. I could eat it every night for months without getting tired of it, especially if it's Japanese. My social media account profiles include the words “Cats, curry, cafe con leche.” Because all three are part of my identity, you see. Because I love curry. (And cats and cafe con leche.)

When Taunie first showed off her bizarre spin on Japanese curry in Pokemon Legends: ZA, I didn't react because the game's script expected me to. I noted the odd tower-like shape, but it was still curry. I didn't care. I didn't even register that it was held up by the three-pillar structure of a trio of croissants until one of the dialogue options pointed it out. Anything. Eat around them.

However, the internet at large seems to have responded to the strangely presented dish that the game anticipated. Which makes this story a total “new” moment for some of you, but personally, I'm on board.

Curry a la Taunie

“I'm so normal with this game,” explains Redditor WaterrSheep. “So normal in fact that I made Taunie's curry. It's honestly not that bad of a taste/texture, but the curry to rice ratio is so terrible I had to go back and add more curry afterwards.” Yes, I could see that. But the rice is curry soaked. It is perfect rice. I wouldn't mind!

Top comment goes to hiimnew007: “That looks awful. Great job!” No, it doesn't. Okay, enough about me. Let's get to the meat and potatoes. Someone else wrote down what will surely work, right down to the giggles. And honestly, it's almost identical to how I make my own curry. Oops, this is about me again. (That baking soda tip is a gem; thanks!)

The OP themselves then replied, confirming that their idea was super close:

Almost exactly what I did except I used the hot curry block!!! Also for the rice formation I used a regular ikea plastic cup and packed the rice in there before smacking it up and down on my plate.

Oh and the croissants are just Pillsbury croissants because I'm a college student and didn't have time to make them from scratch.

This isn't even the first time someone has tried to do this and posted the results on Reddit. As you can see above, the GodKingofTurtles themselves took up arms themselves two months ago, shortly after ZA's launch. You know what? ThisI'm afraid of. The tower form was forged via gelatin, and… no. Just no.

In the case of the more recent recipe, gelatin doesn't matter, but worship does. Someone asked how WaterrSheep kept it together, and their answer is pretty good: “Packing the rice in the cup and praying.” An ingenious mixture of pragmatic know-how and religious zeal.
