PlayStation Plus Subscribers who signed up for the Extra and Premium tiers of the service have a very busy day ahead of them. On Tuesday, January 20, the next big PlayStation Plus update will be released, with nine new games coming to the service as four other titles make their exit.
PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers work very differently than the Essential tier. Games added to the PS Plus Essential tier are effectively “free” games that subscribers can retain access to indefinitely as long as they are registered with the service. However, games in the Extra and Premium levels are rotated in and out of availability, ala Xbox Game Pass. There's usually a big update to the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers every month, and this month it's landing on January 20th.
Free download means you don't have to wait until January 20th to play one of the new PS Plus Extra games
Some PlayStation fans are getting to play an upcoming PS Plus Extra game a little early, thanks to a free download previously made available to subscribers.
On January 20, PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers can look forward to playing A little to the left, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, Art of Rally, Darkest Dungeon, Expeditions: A Mudrunner Game, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Resident Evil Villageand Exit 8with PS1 classic Ridge Racer available exclusively for the Premium tier. On the same day, PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will have to say goodbye Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, Monopoly Plus, Sayonara Wild Heartsand SD Gundam Battle Alliance.

Between the Extra and Premium tiers, subscribers will soon have nine new games to play, including some heavy hitters. Resident Evil Village debuting just a month before the sequel, Resident Evil Requiemlaunches and Darkest Dungeon has received a lot of criticism. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealthat the same time, is a meaty turn-based RPG and is widely considered one of the best games in a long time Like a dragon franchise. Infinite wealth would make the new PS Plus Extra and Premium update for January 2026 exciting in itself, but it makes its debut just like another Like a dragon the game is running.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name leaving PS Plus Extra and Premium on the same day as Infinite wealth joins the service. Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is much smaller in scale than Infinite wealth, and it features a beat'em up battle system more in line with previous entries in the franchise. It also features one of the most emotionally charged stories in the entire series, plus the events of the game lead directly into Infinite wealth.
It would have been nice to be able to play both Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name and Infinite wealth with a PS Plus Extra subscription, but unfortunately that won't be possible on January 20th. The good news is that Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name can be beaten in less than 15 hours, so subscribers have some time to beat it before it is removed from the service. Regardless of the fact that Infinite wealth comes just as The man who erased his name leaves should make January 20th feel like a particularly bittersweet day for PS Plus subscribers.
