The Witcher 3 is easily one of the most influential RPGs of modern times, and even today it is still played regularly. This is possibly why the game has received fairly consistent DLC drops ever since it launched. Even now, there are rumblings that The Witcher 3 is getting a new paid expansion sometime soon, which is rumored to be in the works by The Witcher 1 Remake team Fool's Theory.
This rumor originally came from a Polish podcast called Rock and Boris, created by Polish industry insider Borys Nieśpielak. He later doubled down on this before The Game Awards, expecting the DLC to be announced with a release date sometime in 2026. Obviously, that never happened, but that doesn't mean the rumor is dead and buried.
The Witcher 3 reportedly has a new paid expansion in the works
Thanks to Eurogamer, we now have some fresh rumors that The Witcher 3's rumored expansion might be real after all. For starters, an analyst at Polish Noble Securities named Mateusz Chrzanowski wrote a report after The Game Awards had been and gone, claiming that this rumored DLC was actually real and would be released in May 2026.
The Witcher 3 director says games won't “have soul” if they're only made with AI
Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz thinks AI should be used to help developers, not replace them.
And if you need more proof, Borys Nieśpielak may have provided the biggest bombshell. Speaking to Eurogamer, Nieśpielak shared some more information from a transcript of CD Projekt Red's latest financial report. It claims there is “a chance that new content hinted at in recent calls and reports could be released in the coming year, impacting our results and increasing the likelihood of achieving the revenue condition for the first stage of the incentive program.”
We know that CD Projekt Red has been very open about their development plans of late, revealing plans for Witcher and Cyberpunk projects well in advance of their actual unveiling. The phrase “new content” is pretty vague for a financial report, and for some reason CD Projekt Red doesn't seem to feel like being more specific about what it actually is. Still, this is by far the most evidence we have that the studio is planning something we don't know about. We'll have to see if it's this big Witcher 3 expansion that's been rumored for so long.
