GTA 6 is still not content ready, according to Jason Schreier

Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed a number of times now. The most recent one saw it go from May 26 to November 19, 2026. It was widely speculated that this latest delay was because Rockstar wanted more time to polish the game before launch, while also getting all the content and features ready. However, that may not seem to be the case.

According to Jason Schreier, the developers are still working to finalize all the content that will be included in the game, rather than just polishing a finished product. While some insiders were certain of the November release date, Schreier says even Rockstar employees aren't 100 percent sure.

GTA 6's November release date is starting to look shaky

Speaking on the latest episode of the Button Mash podcast (thanks, Insider), Schreier gave an update on the progress of GTA 6 development. He said the game isn't yet content-ready and it's hard to say whether the studio will be able to hit the November 19 release date (5:22).

“Last I heard, the content was still not complete,” he said. “That is, people were still completing things, still completing levels and missions, and seeing what was coming into the game.” He also mentioned that the “content is done” phase comes after the “feature is done” and before bug fixing. But developers can always add more content even in the bug fixing stage.

What GTA 6's delay means for the gaming industry

The entire release calendar moves every time GTA 6 does, so how will the latest delay affect everything else?

Speaking about the release date, Schreier said, “It's really hard to say right now, and I don't think anyone at Rockstar can tell you, with 100 percent certainty, that they're going to make it in November.” However, he added that people think it is more stable than the May deadline.

As for whether we'll see another delay for GTA 6, he noted that Rockstar will want the game to be as perfect as possible, but has a buffer until March 31, 2027, according to the financial calendar. Rockstar obviously has no problem with multiple delays and has the ability to do so if needed.
