Ubisoft has reportedly registered a domain for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake. In addition to adding to the growing pile of evidence testifying to the project's existence, this development also substantiates an earlier leak about the name that Ubisoft allegedly attached to the project.
First rumors of a potential Black flag remake dates back to late June 2023, when Kotaku's Ethan Gach broke the story of its existence. However, it took another year for further evidence supporting the original report to emerge. In early 2026, the remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is widely considered one of Ubisoft's worst kept secrets among the fandom.
What to expect from the Assassin's Creed franchise in 2025
Ubisoft appears to be going all-in on Assassin's Creed, with at least six AC projects in development, some of which fans may see in 2025.
Possible Black Flag Remake Domain Registered, Contains Previously Leaked Name
Continuing the trend of unofficial breadcrumbs, a new domain for what may end up being the game's official website has recently been registered. Discovered by Twitter user TheHiddenOneAC, it was registered with Gandi SAS, a French company that provides a variety of Internet services, from hosting to domain registrars. The domain, AssassinsCreedBlackFlagResynced.com, is not yet pointing to anything other than a standard domain name unavailable message. However, it is consistent with a previously leaked detail about Black flag remake, matching its changed name discovered in a PEGI listing in early December 2025, which has since been withdrawn.
Game Rant was able to verify this information, in addition to verifying TheHiddenOneAC's other claim: Ubisoft routinely uses Gandi to register new domains. Everything from the main domain ubisoft.com to many of those belonging to subsidiaries such as Star Wars Outlaws Developer Massive Entertainment has gone through Gandi for the registration step before. More recently, Gandi also updated the ownership of PrinceOfPersiaThesandsOfTime.com, which was first registered in early 2022, on someone's behalf. With Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time A remake is heavily rumored for a January 2026 release based on the company's latest earnings projections, the timing is unlikely to be coincidental. Of course, there is no clear evidence that this domain or Black flag resynced one is actually owned by Ubisoft yet.
Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced is expected to be released after Prince of Persia remake
In a recently published financial report, Ubisoft highlighted seven titles that were either released or scheduled to debut in the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2026. Six of them were identified, with only one labeled as an unannounced title. Chronologically, the investor presentation pegged its arrival near the end of the current fiscal year, after Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, which itself still lacks a release date. This raised some speculation about Assassin's Creed: Black Flag resynced planned for a launch at the end of March 2026.
Between all these domain registration moves and hints offered via financial revenue, Ubisoft has been quietly updating the original game's Steam repo going back to at least June 12, 2025, according to SteamDB data. From October the updates will be added Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag The Steam Repository has been a monthly event. While all of them have been seemingly inconsequential in nature, such as introducing a differently formatted trailer, such activity is uncommon to observe when it comes to a game over 12 years old, suggesting that Ubisoft can expect an increase in its page activity in the near future.
Follows the latest Assassin's Creed Shadows delay, which was pushed back from February to March 2025, it was speculated that the move would affect the planned release windows for all future entries in the franchise. Ubisoft de facto confirmed it a few months later; after Shadows debuted to strong reviews and high engagement numbers – reportedly reaching 5 million players in early summer – Ubisoft announced that some of its “biggest productions” were being delayed until 2026 in an effort to achieve the same level of polish.
