The Callisto Protocol has been officially revealed as Epic Games Stores latest freebie, available from today until December 25th. The 2022 survival horror experience is the second AAA title to be featured in this year's Christmas gift on the Epic Games Store.
The ongoing promotion started on December 11th and has been rotating new freebies daily since December 18th. The latest titles given away to Epic Games Store users were Paradise Killer and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Epic has now officially revealed the eighth mystery game in its holiday promotion: The Callisto Protocol. The big-budget sci-fi horror game is free to claim for exactly 24 hours, until December 25 at 8:00am PT / 11:00am ET / 5:00pm CET. This is the first title from the ongoing holiday giveaway that has already been treated to a 100% discount on the platform. Specifically, Epic Games Store users could pick up The Callisto Protocol free for a week-long period at the end of August 2024.

A Brief Introduction to the Callisto Protocol, Epic's Freebie on December 24th
The debut title from Striking Distance Studios, The Callisto Protocol is a narrative survival horror game directed by Dead Space creator Glen Schofield. December 3rd marked its third anniversary, with the game initially launching to mixed reviews, highlighted by its “Fair” rating on OpenCritic, based on an average score of 67 and a reviewer recommendation rating of 41%. Critics praised The Callisto Protocols AAA production qualities and atmosphere, but at the same time its repetitive combat and technical problems are lambasted.
Fixed The Callisto Protocol received an overall mixed response as a spiritual successor to Dead Spacethis 100% discount still makes it an appealing option for sci-fi survival horror fans who have yet to try it. With The Callisto Protocol freebie now live, the Epic Games Store's 2025 Christmas gift is officially over halfway done. Seven more titles will be offered for free until the end of the month, one per day. Looking at the first eight shown, their total retail value is just under $275. While it's unlikely that the remaining December 2025 freebies will all be high-profile releases, both the December 25th and 31st games could be based on Epic's past practice.
