One Piece Anime will regularly go on long hiatuses in the future
Fans of One Piece anime needs to get used to long pauses. This is unfortunate, but it is now official. It was revealed this year that Starting in 2026, Toei Animation will only release 26 episodes of One Piece per year. Not only that, but these episodes will not be released all at once.
Instead, these episodes will be released in two, 13 episodes. There will be a three-month break between each course. In other words, fans are already expecting another hiatus in 2026 starting in July.
This will definitely be hard to get used to for fans who have followed the anime every week for over 2 decades. The worst part is that there doesn't seem to be any animation upgrade to justify the long pauses. The only promise Toei made is to stick to one chapter per episode, which is pretty much the same as what they've done for Egghead.

While this is definitely sad, it's also important to note that in order for the staff to consistently deliver high-quality episodes every now and then, these breaks are very important. At a time when high-level animation for major Shonen series is becoming the norm, this is an important step for the company. Fans might hate it, but it's something they'll have to get used to moving forward.
