Fortnite players use Xbox Game Pass to get cheap V-Bucks

Between console and Game Pass price increases, there hasn't been much for Xbox owners to celebrate in 2025. The silver lining for those using their Xbox to play Fortnite is that Fortnite Crew is now included in Game Pass. Even better, players have discovered a loophole that will give you beautiful V-Bucks for $1.

Fortnite Crew is the battle royale game's subscription service. For a monthly fee, you get perks like cosmetic items, as well as V-Bucks to spend on whatever you want in the in-game store. You now get access to Crew if you have Game Pass. But even if you already subscribed to Fortnite Crew, you'll get an additional 1,000 V-Bucks if you subscribe to Game Pass right now.

A pretty sweet deal on its own, but here it gets even better. Xbox currently has a deal where people can sign up for Game Pass Ultimate and pay just $1 for their first month. Not bad for a service that now costs $29.99 a month – sorry to remind you.

This is where the loophole comes in. As mentioned above, even if you're already a Fortnite Crew subscriber, you'll still get 1,000 V-Bucks for signing up for Game Pass Ultimate. That has resulted in many signing up for Xbox's highest Game Pass tier and paying a single dollar for the privilege, earning 1,000 V-Bucks in the process.

For the most part, these Fortnite players aren't interested in everything else Game Pass has to offer, like its growing library of games. They just want the V-Bucks. As Fortnite leaker Shiina – one of many who have shared the exploit – advises, most people get their V-Bucks and then cancel their subscription immediately.

This may be a loophole that cannot be closed

With their V-Bucks secured, these Fortnite players have no other use for Game Pass, especially if they already subscribe to Fortnite Crew without it, which seems to be the case, most of the time. For those unfamiliar with the USD to V-Bucks exchange rate, 1,000 V-Bucks costs $8.99meaning the loophole gives you that sweet in-game currency at nearly 90 percent off the standard price.

Normally something like this would shut down when a spotlight shines on it, but that might prove difficult in this case. This is not really an oversight; that's just how things work. The only way I can see it possibly being tweaked so that people stop signing up for V-Bucks and then immediately cancel is by limiting the offer to people new to Fortnite Crew instead of offering it as an incentive to all Fortnite players who sign up for Game Pass.
