Revealed way back in September 2021, Marvel's Wolverine will finally be released next fall. Its announcement was incredibly exciting, as were subsequent revelations that the narrative team had talent from Spec Ops: The Linea mature tone and rating and more. Fans were also optimistic that the game wouldn't take long to release, as Insomniac had released games quickly in the late PS4 and early PS5 era. Unfortunately, a catastrophic leak saw large segments off Marvel's Wolverine is shared with the public, as well as Insomniac's plans for the coming years and the studio's private information is published.
Of course, Insomniac Games needed time to secure the safety of its employees, restructure its future plans, and deal with the fallout from quietly scrapped projects—like a promising Marvel's Spider-Man multiplayer games – now common knowledge. There is a chance that parts of Marvel's Wolverine was also reworked, as rough drafts of gameplay segments, major plot beats, and huge surprises came out. Although it has taken some time, Marvel's Wolverine is back on track and nearing the end of development, so here's what you can expect from the highly anticipated 2026 game.
Major spoilers ahead based on leaked Marvel's Wolverine info.
The lead-up to Marvel's Wolverine is likely to be packed with reveals
Considering how fall doesn't start until September, there will be at least eight months to build hype for Insomniac Games' next superhero adventure. A dedicated state near release seems highly likely, with the studio able to showcase the game's bloody combat in more detail than ever before. Although some costumes will certainly be kept secret, Marvel's Wolverine will likely pull back the curtain on a handful of his alternate costumes, with Deadpool and Wolverine suit, Byrne's brown suit (which was apparently already leaked), and an X-Force variant that all seem like safe additions. More characters are likely to be revealed as well, be it Debra Wilson's Callisto, Brett Gibson's Sabretooth, or Jolean Kim's Lady Deathstrike. A collector's edition with a statue of Logan seems like another no-brainer, with the design potentially mirroring the statue from the original Marvel's Spider-Man game and nods to all the villains he will face.
Based on Marvel's Spider-Man series, some pre-order bonus costumes can be expected. X-Men 97 and Astonishing X-Men looks have already leaked and would naturally be good candidates.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 could be the model for Wolverine's gameplay demo
Given the sales success of Marvel's Spider-Man 2Insomniac going a similar route with the marketing for Wolverine would make sense. If it takes the same approach, a lengthy gameplay demo – likely at a State of Play or larger PlayStation Showcase – would be on the cards. Spider-Man 2s demo featured gameplay of both Peter and Miles, showing off the former's Symbiote abilities, as well as an epic chase sequence with the lizard. However, it was cut short before the actual boss fight between Peter and his reptilian nemesis, which is something to consider for a hypothetical Wolverine demo.
A 10-minute episode of Marvel's Wolverine could showcase raw combat against some basic enemies, highlight Logan's various combat skills, while giving players a clearer direction for the story. Based on plot leaks, it seems that Logan will try to stop Omega-level mutants from being captured by Mister Sinister, although Insomniac doesn't have to reveal all of that. Simply giving fans more of a narrative hook than they have now, while also highlighting the game, could do the trick. Introducing a chase sequence like the cinematic boat sequence that was leaked, or something new, like Logan chasing a boss like Omega Red, could be a good way to cover the material.
Marvel's Wolverine is likely to keep a few “surprises” close to his chest
While the Insomniac leak already spoiled some of the biggest twists too Marvel's Wolverinelike a playable Jean Gray and Mister Sinister (played by Troy Baker) being the main antagonist, there's no reason Insomniac has to show the final versions of this content before release. There will be plenty of casual gamers out there who didn't pay attention to the leaks and will still be shocked by another playable hero or the actual main villain, as many would expect Sabretooth to be the main antagonist as opposed to an X-Men threat like Sinister. So while alternating Marvel's Wolverine costumes, some supporting characters, more combat, and a clear story premise are all valid candidates for reveal, Jean and Sinister could absolutely be kept under wraps until the game launches.
Doc Ock's full design was not shown before Marvel's Spider-Man actually releases, and Mister Sinister could be treated similarly.
Predicting the official release date for Marvel's Wolverine
Marvel's Wolverine will be released in either September, October, or November, but based on Insomniac's past releases, it's hard to narrow things down to an exact launch month.

But while Insomniac's own game releases don't help with an estimate, there's one thing that does: Grand Theft Auto 6. A true elephant in the room that has already sent developers into a panic and led to changes in release dates, the winner of the multiplayer award for Most Anticipated Game will be released on November 19, 2026. Of course, Insomniac Games wants to avoid the release of this title as well, so releasing the title near the beginning of autumn, either in September or early October, would give it time to succeed. Considering how recent Insomniac games have dropped on a Friday, September 18, 2026 feels like a solid guess for Marvel's Wolverines release date.
Could Marvel's Wolverine Be Delayed?
Although it is certainly possible Marvel's Wolverine could be pushed back, especially with Insomniac's currently vague release window of fall 2026, though the studio recently doubled down on its release plans via a social media post in November. Insomniac also doesn't tend to delay their titles, and for how long Marvel's Wolverine has been going on, it is safe to assume that it will not break that trend. At present, all signs point to Marvel's Wolverine will be released next year as currently planned.
The launch of Marvel's Wolverine
When Marvel's Wolverine releases, fans can expect certain content, such as:
-
Brutal, bloody melee gear, the sharpness of Logan's claws on full display. Set designers will also be common to maintain a cinematic feel.
-
Boss fights some of Wolverine's deadliest enemies, like Omega Red.
-
Different costumes for Wolverine, with comic book and movie looks sure to exist along with original designs.
-
A bold new version of Wolverine, with Liam Mcyintyre playing “Best he is like what he does.” Memorable characters like Mystique will make up the supporting cast.
-
A variety of locations, from Japan and the Alaskan wilderness to the fictional town of Madripoor.
Based on the track record of Insomniac Games, who have been producing well-reviewed games for years and are hot on the heels of Marvel's Spider-Man 2a game that has a 90 on Metacritic, it can be assumed that Marvel's Wolverine will review very well. Anywhere between the mid-80s and low-90s on aggregate review sites is a safe bet, especially with Insomniac taking so much time to polish and perfect their latest project. In the game's post-credits scene, it would make perfect sense to lay the groundwork for Insomniac's X-Men project, which according to leaks will be the studio's focus around 2030. If there are two scenes, perhaps one will set up Marvel's Spider-Man 3which will likely drop before Marvel's X-Men.
Although the years of waiting for Marvel's Wolverine have been tough, both for the studio and its fans, 2026 will be incredibly rewarding. The first month of the year should bring blog posts, costume reveals, and cinematics, while mid-2026 should bring game demos and deep dives. come autumn, Marvel's Wolverine will finally be released, and players will get to slash through hordes of enemies as everyone's favorite canucklehead.
