Shoppers looking to buy one Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundles for Christmas may soon be in luck, as an internal memo from a well-known retailer stated that Nintendo had stopped making the popular console bundle six months after launch. While the base Switch 2 console and Pokemon Legends: ZA packages are still available, the Mario Kart World the package will likely be hard to come by for a while.

As one of two purchase options for the Switch 2's June launch, is Mario Kart World the bundle had an MSRP of $499, a $50 jump from the base Switch 2 console. Given that a standalone copy of Mario Kart World going for $80, the popular bundle is a net savings of $30 compared to buying the game and a Switch 2 console for $449 separately. But fans who want to secure a physical copy of Mario Kart World as part of the deal were often left disappointed. Switch 2 bundles sold in the US came packaged with a scratch code coupon for Mario Kart World which must be redeemed on the Nintendo eShop after the new console is set up.

Despite the busy Christmas shopping season, a popular gift option for Nintendo customers will soon be in short supply. According to an internal GameStop memo posted by Nintendodeal on X, Nintendo has decided to end production of the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle. The memo stated that additional additions to the Switch 2 will only be the $449 base console. Even if Mario Kart World the package has completed its six-month life cycle Pokemon Legends: ZA Switch 2 bundles can still be found in limited quantities through various retailers. But shoppers are out of luck just yet. Switch 2 Mario Kart World the bundle is still available at Best Buy for $449.99, essentially making Mario Kart World a free game at that price.

But potential buyers looking to get a Switch 2 at its current price point need to make up their minds quickly. With the ongoing RAM shortage crisis driving up the prices of various computer components, gaming consoles and other devices are likely to see their costs rise by significant amounts in 2026 and beyond. Given that DDR5 RAM prices have quadrupled since early October, Nintendo may be forced to raise prices to offset the rising cost of system components. The Switch 2's $449 price tag is unlikely to last much longer. Although Nintendo has not officially commented on any price changes on the Switch 2, the gaming giant raised the price of the original Switch console from $299 to $339 in August 2025. The price increase was due to the US government's tariffs on goods from various nations.

The Mario Kart World Bundle may still return

But hope is not yet lost for that Mario Kart World package, if Nintendo's past is anything to go by. While Nintendo didn't offer a Black Friday console bundle in 2025, the company has typically given gamers some deals that include a console and a bundled game. During the lifetime of the original Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe the bundle was often seen as the main holiday deal that Nintendo included with the original Switch or Switch OLED model.

Even if Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bundle was retired after seven years, its longevity is a potential sign that Nintendo could still bring back the Switch 2 Mario Kart World package in the coming years. With that in mind Mario Kart World continues to receive updates six months after launch, it remains to be seen what Nintendo's plans are for future Switch 2 bundles heading into 2026.
