Diablo 4's Paladin is already the gift that keeps on giving, but there's still one thing left on my Christmas list

Like many others Diablo 4 player, the addition of the Paladin class was at the top of my wish list for the game. With a new expansion on the horizon in 2026, I was sure we'd see Paladin announced for Diablo 4 sooner or later, but I couldn't have predicted that the class would lose the day and date of Season 11 as a pre-order bonus for the Lord of Hatred DLC. While Christmas definitely came early for me and other fans eagerly awaiting Paladin's addition to the game, there is still one item left on my wish list that would be a Christmas miracle if it came true.

It's hard to complain too much, given how good it is Diablo 4 Season 11 has treated me so far. Not only has Paladin been a breath of fresh air in a game that has felt somewhat stagnant throughout 2025, but the overhauls to upgrade gear, the return of Capstone Dungeons, and improved combat with new enemy types have Diablo 4 feels like the experience I wanted it to be at launch. However, Diablo 4 is now in a prime position to do something it probably couldn't have done at launch: release on a Nintendo console.

Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred's release would be incomplete without a Nintendo Switch 2 version

While I'm playing right now Diablo 4 on PC via Battle.net, I long for a way to play the game portable. Diablo 4 already has cross-progression for players who own the game on both PC and console, and is also Steam Deck verified. But releasing the game on Switch 2 would allow me to play Diablo 4 on my PC, my TV and on a PDA, giving me the ultimate freedom to play the game wherever I want.

Diablo already has a strong history with Nintendo

  • Diablo 3: Eternal Collection (Nintendo Switch) — 2018
  • Diablo 2: Resurrected – 2021

Diablo 4 coming to Switch 2 isn't as strange as it might seem, as the franchise has been rolling with Nintendo releases for the past few years. Diablo 3: Eternal Collection was released on Switch in 2018, which was then followed by Diablo 2: Resurrected coming to the console in 2021. I played both of these versions on my Switch and found the portability and control systems perfect for the franchise. Maybe the original switch wasn't powerful enough to handle Diablo 4 when the game launched back in 2023, but the release of the Switch 2 earlier this year is the hardware upgrade that Nintendo fans needed to finally Diablo 4 available.

The Switch 2's mouse controls are perfect for Diablo 4

As much as I enjoyed using the Switch's Joy-Cons for Diablo 3 and Diablo 2: ResurrectedThe Switch 2's option to use a Joy-Con like a mouse would Diablo 4 on the console much more versatile. I would probably use the mouse controllers when gaming on my TV, as it's easier to set up the controller on my living room table. Being able to use the Joy-Cons as traditional controllers as well when playing in handheld mode from my bed would basically let me have the best of both worlds, so I know I'd definitely double dip on Diablo 4 if it was released on Switch 2.

Lord of Hatred would be the perfect opportunity for Switch 2 players to jump on board

Beginning with Diablo 4 Season 11, the game is arguably the best place it's been since launch. This makes it a great time for new players to jump into the game for the first time, especially with the release of Lord of Hatred just around the corner. A Switch 2 release could bring a whole new group of fans into the fold, and those gamers would be able to access basically everything Diablo 4 has to offer right from the start.

Preferably Diablo 4 would be released on the Switch 2 at the same time as the release of Lord of Hatred. Doing so would allow the game to be combined with the expansion all in one package, as Lord of Hatred already includes access to the Vessel of Hatred expansion as well. Giving Nintendo Switch 2 owners this full package at launch would be a great way to entice players to pick up this version, but an additional Nintendo-themed cosmetic package like the Ganondorf armor set that was exclusive to the Switch version of Diablo 3: Eternal Collection would be the icing on the cake. Christmas is fast approaching, and I would love for Blizzard to give me another present by announcing a Switch 2 Edition of Diablo 4.
