At the moment, it definitely seems like it Demon Slayer is ahead, especially when it comes to film. However, this could change very quickly. At the United States box office, Jujutsu Kaisen's new synopsis, Jujutsu Kaisen: Executioner, has surpassed Demon Slayer's own synopsis from a few years ago, Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village. This could be a huge indicator of what's to come, and what could happen if Jujutsu Kaisen finally gets a canon film covering the upcoming manga events and the battle of Gojo vs Sukuna. If this movie really happens, it could prove to be a real threat to Demon Slayer.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Executioner Outpaces Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village at the US Box Office
Jujutsu Kaisen: Executioner is the latest film in the franchise. Although not an original movie, as it mostly summarizes and recaps the events of the Shibuya arc from JJK Season 2, it also includes content from two episodes from the upcoming JJK Season 3 at the end.
As such, fans were very excited about this JJK movie, and in the US, it grossed 10.2 million over its three-day opening weekend. This is definitely not a small number for a summary film, and it actually surpasses the Demon Slayer recap film, 2023's Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village.

Gojo Satoru's death was unfortunate, but these wizards have the potential to replace him as the strongest in JJK.
In comparison, Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village earned 10.1 million for its debut. Of course, one could justify this by saying that Jujutsu Kaisen: Executioner includes brand new content which will attract more fans to theaters, while Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village had none.
You can also say that Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village is one of the series' less popular arcs. Meanwhile, JJK fans are obsessed with Shibuya and Culling Game. Either way, it's still a win for Jujutsu Kaisen, and a sign of its growing popularity.

JJK's popularity can beat Demon Slayer
At the moment, Demon Slayer has little to no existing competition when it comes to anime movies. In Japan, the two highest grossing movies of all time are both Demon Slayer movieswith Mugen Train at number 2 and Infinity Castle at number 1.
That said, Jujutsu Kaisen could rise to the challenge. Jujutsu Kaisen 0, a prequel film, did incredibly well at the Box Office. A canon film following the current story would do even better.
JJK's Gojo vs Sukuna movie would break the box office
If that's something the fans are begging to see happen, this is it a movie covering the Gojo vs Sukuna battle from the manga. The only movie that has a chance to surpass Infinity Castle is a Gojo Vs Sukuna movie, considering it's the biggest anime fight of the last 8 years or so.
Based on current information, it seems like this movie could quite easily happen. Jujustu Kaisen Season 3 will likely end with Gojo off and ready to take on Sukuna. It's the perfect setting for the film, and fans absolutely can't wait to see what comes next.
