Switch 2 is about to get one of the biggest co-op horror games of the last 5 years

Kinetic Games brings their co-op horror hit Phasmophobia to Nintendo Switch 2. The recently announced port, which is currently targeting a 2026 release, is poised to be a huge boon to the Switch 2's library of multiplayer horror games.

Phasmophobia is a co-op experience that sends teams of up to four investigators into haunted locations to gather evidence and identify various ghosts while managing their sanity. Originally debuted as a PC exclusive in September 2020, but made its way to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in October 2024. While it has yet to leave early access, Phasmophobia has already achieved massive success on both consoles and PC. In July 2025, developer Kinetic reported that the game had surpassed 25 million sales, making it one of the biggest horror titles of the 2020s, both in the co-op space and more broadly.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 could be fertile ground for these spooky horror games to finally get their first Switch port.

Phasmophobia Nintendo Switch 2 version was announced at The Game Awards 2025

Kinetic used the 2025 edition of The Game Awards to announce yet another version of the Phasmophobiaand reveals that its hit horror game is currently in development for Switch 2. While no exact release date was given, the UK studio says it's targeting a 2026 launch. The Switch 2 port will be a digital-only release, as is the case with the co-op survival horror game's other releases. Assuming platform price parity, Phasmophobia expected to sell on the e-store for $19.99.

First Phasmophobia Nintendo Switch 2 Gameplay Screenshots

No gameplay footage was shown during The Game Awards 2025, but Kinetic later released the first batch of Phasmophobia Exchange 2 screenshots. The three images suggest that the co-op horror title won't require a major graphical downgrade to run on Nintendo's hybrid console. Although performance details remain unconfirmed, Phasmophobias current console performance is an encouraging sign for the Switch 2; even the Xbox Series S runs the game at 60 frames per second and 1080p resolution. Although the Switch 2 is technically less powerful than the Series S, it has so far largely managed to match Microsoft's budget console in practical performance by supporting certain software solutions such as AI upscaling more effectively. As such, the Series S version can offer a reasonable benchmark for what to expect from the Switch 2 release.

Phasmophobia may leave early access when it hits Switch 2

Separately, Kinetic confirmed that work on the 1.0 version of the Phasmophobia still ongoing. In August 2025, the Southampton-based developer said it was aiming for a full release sometime in 2026. With both the 1.0 release and the Switch 2 release still vaguely dated, it's unclear which will come first, assuming they don't materialize at the same time. Kinetics CEO Daniel Knight said the team is excited for Switch 2 owners to experience “the wealth of content we've added in 2025,” suggesting that when the upcoming port launches, it will be content-rich and in line with other platforms. With 2026 just weeks away, Phasmophobia currently seems more likely to launch in the second half of the year.
