Fire emblem: Three houses
Study for academia
The Fire Emblem games have reached such popularity and dominance that it is fair to characterize them as the most popular TRPGs currently on the market, and Fire emblem: Three houses only cemented that solid reputation. Delivering on Fire Emblem's trademark tactical combat and permadeath (although this can be turned off if desired), the latest in the franchise doesn't embrace its players.
The adaptation goes deep Fire emblem: Three houses, not only because of how characters and buildings can be specified, but also because of the highly divergent paths through the game world that tailor a story for each player, providing a unique experience every time. Add some romance sims, brilliantly written characters and visual novel elements, and Fire emblem: Three houses really presents itself as the whole package.

Final Fantasy Tactics
OG still has it
As good as some modern TRPGs can be, respect must be paid to the original greats, and in the world of TRPGs, no game casts as big a shadow as Final Fantasy Tacticsthe game that introduced an entire generation to the TRPG space and delivered one of the most complete and customizable experiences of the TRPG genre.
Amazing tactical RPG with simple but satisfying mechanics
Like a good game of chess, these tactical RPGs are hard to put down.
Set on an isometric field, fight Final Fantasy Tactics is always a tense and satisfying push and pull between terrain manipulation, ability use, and party composition, where one mistake can be costly, but effective planning and tactical decision-making can result in incredibly satisfying victories. Unicorn Overlord
A liberating tactical RPG
Vanillaware is synonymous with excellence, and the developer loves to jump from genre to genre. Unicorn Overlord was its first fully-fledged tactical RPG, and it ended up not only being one of the genre's best modern releases, but also just a great entry. You take on the role of Alain, a prince who went into hiding after his kingdom was taken over by a rebellion. Now that he's older, Alain plans to travel across the realm, gathering allies and acquiring regions in a quest to finally reclaim his throne. Unicorn OverlordThe story is nothing special, but it works well enough to create situations for big battles that prioritize positioning, class synergy, and customization.
Instead of having deep customization for each character, Unicorn Overlord takes the macro route by instead emphasizing the growth of the army. Although there are named units that are important to the story, conflicts are decided by groups rather than solo warriors, and the game gives you a lot of freedom when creating your army. That said, individual characters aren't completely ignored either, as units have unique abilities that greatly affect the tide of battle.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn
You can't go wrong with any version of Tactics Ogre We went along Tactics Ogre: Reborn as it is the latest version and, consequently, the one that most people are likely to play. As said, Tactic Ogre: Let's stick togetherThe PSP version is brilliant, and the original PS1/SNES version is an all-time masterpiece. Basically, you can't go wrong with Tactics Ogre.
An argument can be made that in 1995 Tactic Ogre: Let's stick together is a perfect tactical RPG, but then you'd also have to argue that its PSP remake is somehow even more perfect. Then again you would have to claim that the PSP Reborn remake is impressively even more perfect. Whichever version you prefer, Tactics Ogre delivers a flexible class system that prioritizes freedom and vitality, as most units have their uses even if they are just generic warriors. In addition to building complex parties, each member can be customized quite carefully to give them a unique spin, and you'll need to take advantage of these slots to make sure your army is up to the job.
Speaking of Reborn Specifically, the remake's biggest additions are almost entirely quality-of-life products, as Square Enix went out of their way to ensure that this version retains the spirit of its forebear while implementing enough modern changes to not feel outdated. The characters get a touch more personality as they can be leveled up individually, and Reborn even adds a new mechanic (charms) that delivers stat boosts or EXP. But this version also simplifies a few things, like tweaking the skill system to make it a little more rigid.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
Critical hit
It would be hard to find anyone in the modern world who didn't at least have a vague idea of D&D, and perhaps even inspired the game systems in games like Baldur's Gate 3but lesser known for the brilliant Pathfinder game system based on D&D's 3rd edition that has directly led to brilliant video games such as the much overlooked Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.

Disgaea 5
Tactical RPGs Action Forever
In a very general sense, TRPGs tend to be associated a bit more with Western developers, perhaps due to their heritage in TTRPG games; However, Japan has released some of the best TRPGs ever made. For gamers looking for some languid, no-frills TRPG goodness, it's hard to beat the terrifying Disgaea.
