World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14 are currently on sale

It is no exaggeration to say that World of Warcraft has been the king of the MMO scene since its release in 2004. Although it wasn't the first of its kind, it wrote the book on many conventions that are still copied by other games to this day. There have been many challengers to its crown over the years, but few have come as close to taking it as Final Fantasy 14. The critically acclaimed MMORPG even temporarily stole the throne in 2020 due to the popularity of Shadowbringer and End walkerquestioned by the unsuccessful Shadowlands expansion i World of Warcraft.

The two games have been rivals for over a decade now, but things are getting really heated between the two. Wow has not only launched its incredible early access housing system, but it's also releasing World of Warcraft: Midnight before Final Fantasy 14 even announcing its next expansion. On the other hand, Final Fantasy 14The next update overhauls its glamor system with some next level improvements leaving Wow in the dust. Both MMOs are taking some big swings right now, and fans will only benefit from this ongoing competition.

This all changed in 2022 with the release of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. After a slow pace in Shadowlands due to covid-19 and an internal upheaval at Blizzard, Wow hit the ground run in Dragonflightsets a furious pace for World of Warcraft lets go. It started releasing new content updates every eight weeks, or about two months. Instead of about two years, Dragonflight was only 21 months: a trend that has only taken off in the Worldsoul Saga, with only The war within lasts only a year and a half.

At the same time, the opposite has happened with Final Fantasy 14. The same year Wow sped up, FF14 announced that it would actually take even more time between patches, with a four-month release cadence expected for each major update. This means that enlargements would likely be well over two years apart, as was the case with the 31-month gap between End walker and Dawnrail. What's worse, despite this estimated four-month cadence, Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail patches like 7.3 have actually taken up to five months to release.

This combination of factors means World of Warcraft officially releasing two expansions without Final Fantasy 14s reprisals for the first time in history. What else, with Final Fantasy 14s fan festival starting in April, World of Warcraft will release its second expansion before FF14 even announcing its next. The last convention ending in November also suggests a winter 2026 or early 2027 for this unannounced DLC, meaning Wow will probably have made a formal disclosure to The Last Titan at BlizzCon then too.

If this is the shot, then World of Warcrafts new housing system is the hunter. Now living in early access as part of Wow Patch 11.2.7, Blizzard's Player Housing has borrowed elements from the systems implemented over many years to create what fans are calling the best MMO housing system to date. While it still has plenty of room to grow, and it's not without its flaws, its accessibility, customization, and lack of lottery or automatic teardown features have made it unusual. Final Fantasy 14 strikes back with unlimited glamour

World of Warcraft's Transmog system is boosted by FF14

Fixed World of Warcraft can run around Final Fantasy 14 When it comes to release dates and housing, the latter counteracts competition in one area in particular: fashion. Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.4 will be released on December 16, and one of its biggest changes comes with the complete removal of glamor class and level restrictions. Outside of weapons, which are still locked to each job, there are characters of any class Final Fantasy 14 will soon be able to wear whatever they want. Monks in blacksmith gear, Dark Knights with White Mage robes, and more will all be possible, opening the gates for customization in a truly groundbreaking way.

Wow make some changes to their own transmog system i Midnightalso. Players will soon be able to unlock and outfit outfits, which can automatically change depending on different situations, such as standing up or jumping into water. While these improvements are incredible, many things do Final Fantasy 14s glamor system does not, characters from each class i Wow are still limited to gear that fits their armor type, which its competitor no longer does.

While World of Warcraft have stuck to this limitation in the name of class fantasy, that argument grows weaker by the day. Many transmog sets from World of Warcraft's Trading Post, cash shop, or in-game events such as Legion Remix are class agnostic, allowing Warlocks to wear heavy armor or Paladins to don robes or spell-casting garb. Many NPCs in the game also wear outfits that combine Plate, Mail, Leather, and Cloth, making this limitation for players particularly severe.

In the end, though, it's the fans who really win this war. When one game makes a big move, it inevitably puts pressure on the other to improve as well, lest it be left behind. This should inspire each game to borrow ideas from each other, while putting out new innovations on their own. Until then, players should be sure to let their respective game developers know what features they'd like to see make it to Azeroth and Etheirys, respectively.
