9 pirates stronger than Yonko Monkey D. Luffy in one piece

The captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, Monkey D. Luffy has come a long way since his humble beginnings in East Blue. Over the two years of his pirate career, Luffy has slowly, but steadily, grown greatly in power. Luffy has advanced his Haki, awakened his Devil Fruit, Gomu Gomu no Mi, and reached the top as one of the Yonko of One Piece world. It goes without saying that Luffy has become a top character in One Piece world, but he has yet to surpass any pirates, including the likes of Shanks who are still alive.

Scopper Gaban

Scopper Gaban was one of the most legendary members of the Roger Piratesthe crew that conquered the Grand Line.

In the stream One Piece timeline, Gaban is quite old and may struggle to defeat Luffy due to lack of stamina. However, in his prime, Gaban remains superior to Luffy, especially when it comes to Haki. Luffy must perfect his Haki before he can surpass the Pirate King's left arm.

Silver's Rayleigh

Silver's Rayleighlike Gaban, was one of Roger's wings. Rayleigh is very old now and clearly not at her best. But in his prime, Rayleigh was truly unstoppable.

Rayleigh had incredible Haki, and he and Gaban were said to be on the same level as Roger. Luffy still has a long way to go before reaching the level of Pirate King or his wings.

White beard

For a long time, Whitebeard was known to be the strongest man in the world. He retained his title until his inevitable death, during the events of the Summit War. Even through illness and old age, Whitebeard was still able to wreak havoc on the Marines.

In his prime, Whitebeard was one of the greatest and a rival to the likes of Roger. Whitebeard remains one of the greatest Yonkos to have ever lived and his best years are definitely upon Luffy.

Blackbeard

Blackbeard is a current Yonkoalong with Luffy, and one of the most dangerous characters on the high seas. Blackbeard was strong, even before the acquisition of his Devil Fruits. But after eating Yami Yami no Mi and Gura Gura no Mihe has reached new heights of power. He has yet to reach his true potential One Piecebut even then he is definitely superior to Luffy at the moment.

Rocks D. Xebec

Rocks D. Xebec was a great mystery i One Piecebut everything about him has been revealed during the God Valley Incident of One Piece. Fans definitely got a good glimpse of his power, and it's a fact that Rocks D. Xebec is one of One Piece's strongest ever to live.

In his prime, Rocks far surpasses current Luffy. Rocks' Haki is incredibly powerfulhaving allowed him to easily defeat the strongest Holy Knight, and even an Admiral. Stones could have become even stronger if he didn't have to face Imu so early.

Gol D. Roger

Gol D. Roger is the most legendary name found in One Piece world. During his pirate years, Roger continued to achieve the impossible. He conquered the Grand Line, found the One Piece, and thus earned the title of Pirate King. So far, no one else has achieved this feat in One Piece. Luffy tries to carry on Roger's legacy and become the new pirate king. That said, Luffy is still not on Roger's level, which is especially evident from the latter's exploits at God Valley.

Shanks

Shanks may be the single strongest pirate currently alive in One Pieceand easily one of the strongest of all time. Born of a celestial dragon father, Shanks has shaped his own destiny and traveled on with Roger. Later he became a Yonko.

Shanks is far superior to Luffy at the moment. While Shanks does not use Devil Fruit powers, he instead goes all out with his Haki. Shanks Haki is on a whole other level and is even comparable to the Joy Boys.

Davy D. Jones

Davy Jones is a name fans didn't expect to have so much significance in the final saga. After all, Davy Jones' name was first mentioned in Long Ring Long Land, an arc many tend to overlook.

In Elbaf, on the other hand, Davy D. Jones turned out to be the progenitor of Rocks D. Xebec and Blackbeardas well as the former king of the world. Jones is one of only two pirates that Imu truly fears, and that alone means he was much stronger than the current Luffy in his time.

Joy Boy

Joy Boy is the strongest pirate who ever livedand one that Luffy must eventually surpass. Joy Boy was the former Nika from another world. While he died for Imu, he was incredibly powerful, and Imu still fears him 800 years later.

Joy Boy has the best Haki ever seen in One Piecea glimpse of that was given in Egghead, and fans can't wait to learn more about him as the story progresses.
