This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
One Piece has two primary power systems—Haki and Devil Fruits. The latter was introduced a long time ago, but Haki didn't enter the story until after the time jump. There were Haki users, but readers didn't know about their power for a long time.
Since the timeskip, Haki has become more and more important to the story. Even Kaido was convinced that Haki was the most potent weapon in the world, and anyone who wanted to reach the top had to master it. At first, Oda only introduced three types of Haki, but he kept adding new applications. In the Elbaf arc, One Piece fans saw yet another type called Haki for critical mass.
One Piece: Oda has already revealed The New Straw Hat Devil Fruit User
The Straw Hat Pirates may soon have a new Devil Fruit user, and in One Piece. The fans are hyped.
What is Critical Mass Haki in one piece?
Critical Mass Haki increases the power of attacks
-
Critical Mass Haki was used by Garp and Roger
-
Haki was able to bypass Xebec's insane defenses
In One Piece Chapter 1165, Roger and Garp finally team up to fight the transformed Xebec. They spent much of their stamina trying to dent Xebec's defenses, but the transformation made it nearly impossible for them to do so. They knew time was running out, and if they didn't get the job done quickly, Xebec would kill them and then go after whoever was left on the island.
Thankfully, Roger came up with an idea that he thought would allow them to take down Xebec. Roger told Garp that they needed to put all their mass into one last attack. Garp understood what Roger wanted to do, so they both used all their stamina, affecting the mass of the attacks and causing their strikes to be imbued with critical mass of Haki. Using this special type of Haki, Roger and Garp were able to bypass Xebec's defenses and subdue him.
Oda likely introduced the critical mass Haki in the flashback because Luffy and his friends might have to use it against the Holy Knights, who intend to destroy Elbaf and its population. Luffy and his allies don't know how to use critical mass Haki, but Scopper Gaban might teach them. Gaban has already shown that he is capable of bypassing the regeneration of the Holy Knights. If he imparts his wisdom to Luffy, Zoro, Sanji and Loki, they will be equipped to deal with the Holy Knights. There is a lot riding on Luffy's shoulders, which is why he must deliver at all costs. If he fails to defeat the Holy Knights, Elbaf is doomed.
Luffy will use Critical Mass Haki to beat Imu
Luffy's adventures have seen him face many overpowered opponents. Many have caused him problems, but he has managed to beat them with a combination of indomitable will and strong abilities. But none of his enemies compare to Imu, who stands at the top of the world government. Fans have only seen glimpses of Imu's powers, but most agree that the supreme ruler of the World Government is in a league of his own.
In order to beat Imu, Luffy must become stronger. His first mission would be to master the Hito Hito no Mi, model: Nika. The Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit will undoubtedly prove to be an invaluable weapon against Imu, as it is linked to Joyboy. Luffy already knows how to use Gear 5th, but he has to fully master it, as he suffers from severe exhaustion afterwards. Also, Luffy can't keep Gear 5th for an extended period of time. He must solve these problems before trying to fight Imu.
The other thing that Luffy needs to master is Haki. It has been said several times that Haki is the only safe counter to Devil Fruits. Without Haki, it is almost impossible to harm a Devil Fruit user. Luffy has mastered all types of Haki and their advanced versions, but there are some things he doesn't know about. As previously mentioned, Luffy does not know Critical Mass Haki. Hopefully he'll master it in the Elbaf arc. Even if Luffy does not learn critical mass Haki, he must learn to bypass the regeneration of the holy knights and gorosei.
