Sony has just announced a new 27″ gaming monitor designed by PlayStation and made specifically with PlayStation 5 in mind. This announcement came toward the end of Sony's November State of Play, which provided about 40 minutes of PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4-related reveals.
Sony's State of Play Japan focused on games from Japanese and Asian studios, such as Arc System Works, Bandai Namco and Koei Tecmo. Some of the biggest highlights from the recent State of Play were the announcement of majors Fire Ring Nightreign DLC, the reveal of Marvel Token Fighting Souls' the next closed beta date, and the confirmation that Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake launched on March 12, 2026.
PlayStation releases a 27-inch screen with built-in PS5 features
During Sony State of Play Japan, PlayStation announced a 27″ gaming monitor that comes with a built-in DualSense charging hook. This DualSense/DualSense Edge charging hook is located on the back of the monitor next to its cable ports, and it can be rotated and stowed out of sight when not in use.
This official PlayStation-made display will feature a Quad High Definition (QHD) IPS display that offers a resolution of up to 2560 x 1440. The display comes with Auto HDR Tone Mapping, which adjusts the display's HDR settings automatically when you launch a game via PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 5 Pro, and it also has a 240hz refresh rate and VRR support. That said, these features are only available with supported games and compatible devices. For example, while connected to a base PlayStation 5 console, this monitor will only have a maximum refresh rate of 120hz.
On the rear of the PlayStation display, users can expect to find two HDMI IN ports (version 2.1), both of which support up to 2560 x 1440 resolution, 240hz refresh rate, FRL and VRR. Next to them is a DisplayPort IN, which supports up to 2560 x 1440 resolution, 240hz and DSC. This monitor also has two USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C port, along with built-in stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio output.
According to the PlayStation Blog, this official PlayStation monitor will launch in 2026 in both the US and Japan, although Sony hasn't officially revealed its retail price yet. Similar displays, such as the Samsung Odyssey G6, typically sell for around $300-$400, while those with the same general specs but an OLED screen typically sell for around $500-$700. But as always, fans will have to wait for Sony to make an official announcement before a price is set in stone.
