While players usually need to purchase storage upgrades, Niantic recently provided everything Pokémon GO trainers with a free Expansion Item Bag. As a token of appreciation for the community, players received 400 free slots in their Item Bag as part of a new set of level-up rewards recently added to the game. As if that wasn't enough, Niantic just announced that the storage capacity limit has also been increased.
Pokemon GO further increases storage capacity
In an unexpected and surprising move, Pokémon GO announced that it has further increased the storage capacity for players. For Pokemon storage, the app has increased the capacity limit by 650, now up to 11,150. Similarly, Niantic has also increased item storage by 650, pushing the item bag limit all the way up to 10,500. With the extra capacity, players can purchase storage upgrades in Pokémon GO store by spending 200 Poke Coins to unlock an additional 50 slots.

The move was appreciated by trainers as Go Fest events usually feature a variety of Pokémon to catch, with some wearing special outfits to mark the occasion. This year also featured a three-part Ultra Unlock event along with the return of Zacian and Zamazenta in raids.
The storage upgrade is also likely to come in handy during December's Community Day event in Pokémon GO. As the game has done over the past year, December Community Day will be a celebration of the entire year, with Saturday and Sunday bringing back all previously featured creatures in Pokémon GO for 2025. Karrablast, Shelmet, Vanillite, Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Pawmi will appear on December 6th, while Solosis, Flabebe, Pikipek, Jangmo-o, Rookidee, and Quaxly will spawn on Sunday, December 7th.
