Hades 2 Patch 1 changes its true ending after the player's setback

Hades 2's 1.0 release finally revealed the game's true ending, which I won't spoil here. Much like the first title, Melinoe must complete multiple runs of the underworld and the surface to see the final end and free the world from the tyrant of time, Chronos. Unfortunately, this true ending did not live up to fans' expectations.

With the amount of grinding required on two separate fronts, players expected a jaw-dropping conclusion that the game didn't quite deliver. Several plot points were also left unresolved, such as Hypno's story. To address this lack of a happy ending, Supergiant changed things up in its first patch after the game's full launch.

The patch notes for the update reveal several changes and balances between boons and blessings, but the standout change is undoubtedly the revised version of the true ending. Supergiant isn't shy about changing this after the backlash Hades 2 received for its true ending, and it's also added a feature that lets you experience it without re-grinding.

“Added new events leading up to the True Ending, and some after,” the patch says. “As part of this, increased the number of underground clearings required, and added and revised parts of key True Ending scenes before the end credits. Note: The vast majority of changes are to the Underworld route; the Surface route is mostly unchanged.”

The update also introduces a new cauldron spell that allows you to return to an earlier point in the story and experience the new changes to the true ending, along with other interactions. The change is not only to the cinematic ending, but also to several earlier interactions to make it more satisfying.

While Supergiant is known for constantly improving their games, changing the entire true ending following fan feedback is a huge decision that has been widely appreciated. Fans on Reddit have welcomed this update, especially after feeling a bit burned by the previous version. You can be sure that the number of players in Hades 2 will see a boost after this.

The new true ending is only available as a preview at the moment, so you can expect further improvements in… time (heh).
