Prototype can get a remaster, based on a surprising steam update

Prototype is ranked quite high on the list of games we would love a remaster of. What we would give to play Alex Mercer with is superhero (or villain) forces again. The series has long been dormant, while others around it have been remedied or reworked in modern allegiance. However, there have been some recent incidents that suggest that a remaster may be on the way.

Back in April, a PlayTester that was part of a group test for Activision claimed that a new prototype game was on its way with Mercer himself. The game would involve “form -changing, transform into other people into infiltrate areas” in New York. Not much has been heard since then, until now.

Both prototype games received a surprising steam update

Prototype 2 mutant virus,

As discovered by PCGAMER, both prototype and prototype 2 received surprise updates of about 600 MB each. These updates did not come up with any patch notes or communication at all. As expected, dataaminers appeared in these corrections to find out what they contained exactly, and their research suggested that the updates were probably to prepare a remaster.

Two major changes were discovered as a result of these updates. The first was development test maps that were not played in the previous versions of the games, while the second was some changes in the credits of the games. A whole lot of new names and studios were added, including those for a 'Ubisoft Connect version'.

To add remaster theory, the credits included staff from Activision Support Studios Beenox and Demonware. But the biggest addition is Iron Galaxy Studios, which worked on many remasters such as Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater: 3 + 4.

On a separate note, back in February 2024, new lists were discovered for both prototype games on the Australian Classification Board website. Although none of this can be regarded as a confirmation, it definitely looks like it is just a matter of time before Sony announces a prototype -Mermastered collection, and maybe even a new game in the long dormant series.
