Sequel that took longer to release than silksong

The first hollow knight won us with his beautiful hand-drawn pictures, challenging games and insect-themed world, and we wanted more. Within a year after the publication, Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced, but we were forced to wait a long time until it was real.

Now it is finally clear, and its long -awaited release date is September 5, 2025, about seven and a half years after Hollow Knight's launch in February 2017. It is undoubtedly a long time to wait, especially to know about its arrival for about six of these years, but lots of other sequences have taken even longer longer to come out.

Deltarune

10 years

The heroes look at a fountain in Deltarune.

After the publication of Undal 2015, Toby Fox experienced a sudden increase in the profile after its success and responded as most artists do: by disappearing to work with something else. He clearly had a vision for the universe he had created and announced shortly after an indirect sequel to Deltarune.

Although he would generously release a chapter here and there for free consumption, it was not until 2025 that he officially released Deltarune as a paid title, including all the finished chapters until then. It was a long wait that was well worth the patience we could spare.

Duke Nukem forever

15 years

Duke lubricates with a cigar and strange chaos in the background of Duke Nukem Forever.

You either grew up with Duke Nukem or have no idea who he is, but to break down he is a wandering action-movie-quip machine. He embodied what was considered raunchy and cool at that time. Duke Nukem made a name to make some quick and spotted FPS adventures with a mix of suggestive images and raw humor before the series slowed down.

Duke Nukem Forever was announced and then put on the rear burner when smaller filler titles tried to buy it some time. When it was finally materialized, it turned out to follow the trends for all other FPs at that time, and never really make a lasting impact, even after all these years in development.

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2

13 years

Titus is fighting Tyranids along with other space marines in Space Marine 2.

Before the release of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine knew a big bit of us nothing about Warhammer, and we had even less interest. However, sit in the heavy metal power armor of Captain Titus and drop us on Armies of Angry Squishy and Crunchy things, and we can't get enough.

But that's all we got for over a decade, because we hoped that Titus would return with his futuristic medieval weapons and Chunky Ammo weapons. Our hopes were met with Space Marine 2, which gave back Titus, CRISP HD images, new threats to overcome, new weapons to fight them and more planned and various multiplayer content. For the emperor!

Starcraft 2

12 years

The three leaders for Starcraft 2.

In the shadow of Blizzard's massively successful Warcraft series, it cheated their tangled sci-fi star plane. Although it is not so popular, the title found a dedicated and very competitive audience that kept it active (and still do) for many years. Warcraft still pulled out in front of World of Warcraft, and Starcraft just stayed and offered his time in the dark.

Suddenly, a lightly penetrated through the RTS casing to start Starcraft anchor. It has everything a sequel should have: a new story, new characters, new units, new mechanics and a new feeling. Although it may not be as big as it once was, Starcraft 2 tournaments are still strong.

Stalker 2

16 years

A stalker adapted to the zone in Stalker 2.

Before Soulsikes got a reputation for being hard and setting the new standard, there was a lesser known PC series called Stalker. It took place in a strongly irradiated area called the zone, filled with energy deviations, mutants and opportunistic hunters waiting to kill and steal the little you have managed to hold.

This is a game where a single shot can mean death, and you will often see the meaning that is emphasized. Stalker silenced in 2008, just to be revived in 2024 with Stalker 2.

If there was ever a game that gained popularity years after release, it is Vampire: The Masquerade. An interesting time on the concept of vampires, the game makes you choose between several vampire tones with different performances, strengths and weaknesses, while following the rule that they have to hide their real identity.

It has all the Janky and Meme-like charm in an older PC game, but it never really grew beyond that. Still, we are here, and in the wake of silksong no less. Vampire: Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is scheduled to be released in October, almost 30 years after the original. Well, vampires have been known to sleep for centuries.

With left 4 dead, the world was changed by co-op games forever when four became the magic group number to collaborate and achieve a goal. While fighting zombies is fun, it may be even more fun to fight the man, as Payday proved. After the huge success of the first game, Payday 2 shot down the pipeline within a few years to even greater success and popularity.

After that, silence. Designers continued to refine and expand Payday 2, while the game itself seemed like a dream. Depending on who you ask, it may have been better if it had remained a dream when Payday 3 was finally released in 2023 to a resounding … eh.

Diablo 3

11 years

Diablo is fighting an angel in Diablo 3.

The first Diablo was slow, but interesting and exciting with its idea that a Fantasy Warrior can take on legions of monsters. Diablo 2 was expanded by introducing a massive world with different regions and dungeons, along with new classes to play and a much greater story with even greater hell forces to fight. We were happy with this, especially with the Lord of Destruction Expansion.

Then we heard talk about a new Diablo game, some for the latest generation of HD consoles. Thus, Diablo 3 finally came and adds even more choices for our characters and a story that led us to battles in new areas. Some may say that Diablo has recently lost their way, but the trilogy is still a solid foundation.
