Pokemon Champions will be the VGC platform for Pokemon World Championships 2026 series

With 2025 Pokemon World Championships in the rear mirror, and incredible winners like Giovanni who took their awards home in Glee, the rest of the planet remained set until the end for what was an even bigger deal for so many of us who have been on the side line. Pokemon Company promised something big for the closing ceremony, and now we have it.

Not only did we get any big news in the form of Battle Club Multiplayer – Mode for Pokemon Legends: ZA – here is a link for that bomb shell! – But we also learned something with quite dramatic consequences: rather than a traditional main line title that represents Pokemon's VGC 2026, as they have always done before, Pokemon master will take the throne.

Master of championship

Pokemon Champions apparently is a spinoff game. But it is a spinoff with the explicit purpose of providing a completely competitive experience. Whether it is because Pokemon's tenth generation's main game will not be out in time for Pokemon World Championships' Sunny San Francisco 2026 setting, or because Master will be a routine representative of the tournament scene that goes forward, we can at least expect the Pokemon Champions to be the definite.

This is a paradigm shift. For several years, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have led the accusation. Before them it was Pokemon Sword and Shield. The farther back you look, and all you really see is that the generation numbers go down with one each time since the tournament scene first exploded to the global scene. But Pokemon Champions challenges our preconceived perceptions.

So yes. If you are in the competition page of the wonderful world of Pokemon, it is certain that you will see a lot of champion in 2026, and it is also not from the possibility that you will continue to see it in '27 and thereafter.
