Ghost of Yotei can follow in the last of us part 2's footsteps, but it shouldn't

Throughout The last of us part 2Ellie is in constant pursuit of Abby and eventually found her imprisoned at Rattler's association in Santa Barbara. This is where the two have a desperate showdown, and although it seems that Abby will meet her end in the hands of Ellie, this is not what happens in the end. Instead, a sudden shed of clarity gives Ellie to the insight that revenge will only cause more pain. It won't get any of the people she has dropped on the road. Abby flees, and Ellie is left alone, her hunger after revenge that ran her remaining allies. It is a brutal lesson that still continues to be a sharing subject.

ATSU's revenge needs a new angle

If Ghost of Yotei intends to use revenge as a primary theme, it must avoid redoing the story of The last of us 2. Instead of depicting revenge as the source of an endless bicycle of pain, ATSU's journey Ghost of Yotei Could show how revenge can sometimes get closing. Ghost of Yotei Need to stand on its own, and ATSU embraces completely a descent to darkness can be a fascinating way to do so.

Between the potential comparisons with The last of us part 2S takes revenge and the high expectations set by Ghost of TsushimaThe Ghost of Yotei have been in a tough situation. Meeting, or exceeding, the bar made by the predecessor is not a simple task, and making a revenge history feel fresh is its own unique challenge.

Regardless, Ghost of Yotei is an exciting new path that can give yet another beautiful violent and upcoming story to life. ATSUS story may not be as selfless as Jin Sakai's struggle for the island of Tsushima, but it is ultimately what makes her chapter so exciting.
