This will be a big year for Disney LorcanaAs there will be three major enlargements scattered in 2025. The first new set for the game is Archazia's island, which is already shaking up the game pretty much with LorcanaFirst multicolored cards, called double ink. These come with an inherent restriction to tire building, as players can normally only do Lorcana Tires with two ink colors at the same time, so double color cards that are automatically set in stone which colors are allowed in a given tire. Another remarkable factor is that cards with double ink follow one of Magic: The collectionPrinciples regarding color identity.
Magic: The collection and Lorcana are very different games, and the former have much more experience under their belt thanks to their 32-year presence on the market. Mtg Had a lot of time to grow when it comes to both audiences and games, and multicolored cards played a major role in this growth. Whether it for mono -colored cards or multicolored, Magic: The collection is about color identity; Some colors are more adapted to specific measures or mechanics than others, and this changes accordingly when a card has more colors. LorcanaCards with double ink follows a similar principle for better or worse.
Magic: The collection has 26 color combinations that go with different Lore-related names, and they take elements from the five main colors and blend together to create new identities.

Disney Lorcana may be shooting in the foot with a magic: the collection mechanic
Lorcana and Magic: The Gathering are very different games, but the former adds a controversial mechanic from the latter.
Lorcana expands on color identity as magic: the collection did
Much like in MtgThe Lorcana The cards have their own color identity. For example, Sapphire has several options to place more than one card in the ink well every turn, Amethyst has many ways to draw extra cards, Amber has song characters that can be practiced to play songs that cost more ink, and so on. With each color combination, Lorcana Tires have gradually developed its own identity, and cards with double ink seem to be hone on this more than trying to break the shape. This may be good or bad depending on color combinations, but that is exactly what Mtg have done over the years.
Lorcanas new 101 Dalmatians Cards are built into the already proven identity on Amber/Sapphire Aggro -Duck theme about hero characters, just this time it is more about puppy characters that have focused on pets on Archazia's island. In the same way, several new emerald/steel cards revolve around pirates, which Is something that Azurite Sea favored thanks to a number of new pirate characters. Ruby/Amber has several new cards that have effects tied to racers, which also makes sense after this color combination saw many racing characters and places during the latest sets, especially shimmering sky.
Why Lorcana's card with double ink can be a double -edged sword
As such it makes sense to LorcanaNew Archazia's island will focus on existing archetypes with double color cards, which are intended to be the symbol of color identity for two different ink types. At the same time, not all existing color combinations are strong in the same way. Ruby/Amber is often considered a false tire, whether in its Mufasa version or the places and racing tires. Ruby/Steel is another combination that does not see much play outside a new pirate version that saw mild success. The new Ruby/Steel cards seem to be about challenging opposite characters, which is undoubtedly a weak gaming niche for colors with little or no healing.
As much as Lorcana sought after Magic: The collectionFootprints can be good, the game is still in their childhood. This is only the second all year with publishing for LorcanaAnd before you commit to specific color identities, it may be better to wipe out what the different color combinations can do. Ruby and steel both have many removals, for example, so making new cards with double ink that uses this to the advantage of the color combination can be a better and more satisfactory niche than just challenging characters. This does not mean that the game will not be expanded on the identity of each color combination in future sets, as Mtg Has done in over 30 years, but Archazia's island may not move the needle when it comes to meta tires if it does not create new color identities.
