Flourishing as a highly capable witch apprentice in Witch Hat Atelier is no easy feat. With quite a few elite witches in the Witch Hat Atelier world to name but only so many reliable ones to actually learn from, it’s one tough hill for a budding novice to climb. To become a full-fledged witch, a promising apprentice must prove that their skill, passion, and respect for the craft are there.

The Best Magic School Anime, Ranked
Filled with wonder and spectacle, anime love magic schools, and these shows represent this theme at its best.
What makes a witch apprentice strong doesn’t revolve around merely passing the notorious Pentacle of Proving. Witch apprentices who are well worth their salt must build flawless command of their intent and possess outstanding mental fortitude. They must also seek unceasing refinement of their craft — from navigating the intricacies of spell technique and spell creation to amassing extensive knowledge of keystones, sigils, and signs.
When it comes down to it, an up-and-coming witch has to step into a labor-intensive lifestyle in tune with the laws set by the Day of the Pact. Memorizing all these nuances, however, doesn’t seem to discourage some witch apprentices as they rush toward their professional witch journey in their sylph shoes.

Euini
The Scholarly Witch Apprentice
- Magic specialty: Camouflage and invisibility magic
- Master: Kukrow (formerly), Alaira (currently)
Euini makes for one of the weakest apprentice witches in Witch Hat Atelier. What he mainly derives his strength from is his firm grasp of the fundamentals of magic. Even though he fails twice at passing the Pentacle of Proving, The Sincerity of the Shield, Euini has a profound understanding of spells and magic components and enough resilience to turn his misfortune into a source of his personal power.
After Sasaran plagues Euini’s skin with the Scalewolf Curse, Euini acquires a wolf-like form that makes him a walking advertisement for the use of forbidden magic. Though it doesn’t give Euini enough mystery to be one of the most intriguing Witch Hat Atelier characters, it certainly makes him popular with the Knights Moralis.
With the help of Alaira and Richeh, Euini becomes more confident and prevents the curse from wiping away his memories. Besides the curse acting as his ultimate setback, however, Eunini’s spell technique remains at the mercy of his anxiety, lacking precision and speed. Although, with some creativity, Eunini gets around this flaw by keeping spells in his palm quire. Overall, Euini has a long journey ahead of him on his way to becoming a powerful witch – and maybe one day reversing his curse.

Loroga Roenton
The Pretentious Witch Apprentice
- Magic specialty: Unknown
- Master: Unknown
As a textbook case of a passive-aggressive manipulator, Loroga wastes no time letting his behavior earn Witch Hat Atelier a spot among the top anime that explore bullying. This scheming witch apprentice proves that weakness can live within one’s character, not just within one’s skill, and that exploiting the soft spots of others is one way an emerging witch can gain an edge.
Sadly, Loroga’s perceptiveness doesn’t seem to find its way inward. With his strength potential subverted by his own personality flaws, Loroga fears appearing average and struggles to put his solid grasp of the basics to good use. His unchecked inferiority complex drives him to take out his frustrations on others through manipulative behaviors and toxic banalities like gossip.

Riliphin
The Traumatized Witch Apprentice
- Magic specialty: Unknown
- Master: Beldaruit
With his character arc weaving a beautiful tale of post-traumatic growth, Riliphin is one compelling reason why Witch Hat Atelier is one of the best manga to read in 2026. While his appearance in the anime adaptation stays as reserved as his nature at this point, Riliphin is a witch apprentice with enough potential to become one of the Three Wise.
As a student of Beldaruit, the Wise in Teachings, whose apprentices are never accidental, Riliphin consistently expands his perception and working knowledge of the craft. Under Beldaruit’s guidance, Riliphin seems to discover his calling in seeking mastery of magic that is selfless in nature — one that protects and rebuilds.
What limits Riliphin’s strength, however, is the aftermath of the endured abuse by his former master, which puts Riliphin among those tragic anime characters with heartwrenching backstories. Unlike his sister Richeh, Riliphin has a hard time using his magic while under duress, as he struggles with overwhelming anxiety and deep-seated guilt. More so, his empathic nature puts him at odds with the deployment of combat magic.

Richeh
The Microglyph Witch Apprentice
- Magic specialty: Crystal magic
- Master: Qifrey
Where Richeh’s unique potential makes itself known is her own personal genius at wielding small-scale magic — born out of her innate rejection of the norm. Richeh’s rebellion against what she is told to do lets her refine her own style of magic, unmatched in both intricacy and speed. If one ever needs a high-quality Crystal Ribbon spell or a unique solution, Richeh is the right witch for the job.
Not surprisingly, Richeh’s stubborn streak is the exact double-edged sword that limits her as a witch apprentice. Her refusal to learn a variety of standard spells hurts her ability to adapt outside her comfort zone. Despite her nature being a uniquely subverted contribution to the club of the top female anime kuudere characters, and not without the help of her friends like Euini, Richeh has the potential to become a very powerful witch in her own style.

Witch Hat Atelier Episode 11 Release Date
Episode 10 of Witch Hat Atelier saw incredible character growth for Tartah and a jolt of inspiration for Coco, and Episode 11 is coming soon.

Tetia
The Witch Apprentice on the Happiest Cloud
- Magic specialty: Cloud and propulsion magic
- Master: Qifrey
Tetia represents the perfect balance between joy and fortitude in regard to other witch apprentices. Her upbeat attitude, quick thinking, and ability to draw complex glyphs are just a few of her powers. Getting crafty at not only spell creation but also the way she executes her spells, Tetia makes use of her cloud magic to foster safety and comfort for her friends and even a dragon. As a witch apprentice who feels wrapped in the sense of wonder, Tetia perfectly embodies the spirit of the most endearing female anime deredere characters.
Tetia’s adorable cloud magic, however, does have its limits. Because her magic often requires ample space when cast, confined spaces are quick to put Tetia in a bit of a bind. To make matters worse, without this being a dig at her as a person, Tetia’s desire to make people happy puts her at a disadvantage against hostile opponents. With her conscientious rejection of combat-oriented spells, Tetia ends up being too vulnerable in situations where she can’t rely on her cloud magic or other spells to evade the threat.

Coco
The Optimistic Outsider Witch Apprentice
- Magic specialty: Utility magic
- Master: Qifrey
Out of all the apprentice witches in the manga, Coco seems to have the strongest love for magic, which stems from her determination to save her mother. What makes her strength stand out is the precision of a hawk with which Coco can craft simple geometric spell designs. Even though she finds the sheer amount of history and theory behind magical knowledge overwhelming, Coco doesn’t back down on her way to the goals that her love dictates.
While her lack of knowledge limits her ability to apply her creative ideas, with the help of her fellow apprentices, she manages to find a way to make things work. Seen as the “Child of Hope” by the Brimmed Caps, Coco faces a nuanced predicament well in line with the atmosphere of sophistication in the top seinen anime series. In order to save her mother, Coco would have to violate magical laws, yet again, to undo the petrification process. It is through this web of challenges that Coco can evolve into a powerful witch.

Jujy
The Exceptionally Calm Witch Apprentice
- Magic specialty: Earth and structural magic
- Master: Hiehart
When it comes to handling emergencies and staying decisive when it counts, Jujy is the right witch apprentice for the mission. Her cool-headedness feels tailor-made for situations that require dealing with monsters and sophisticated adversaries, as Jujy has a knack for assessing situations quickly and casting adequate solutions right away. With her calm logical disposition standing tall as a rare source of strength that stems from a place of psychological maturity, Jujy is one of the most stoic anime characters.
Even the toughest of minds, however, have natural extents of their strength, and the capacity of Jujy’s mind gets pushed to its limits all too often by the constant whimsies of her unpredictable master. Having to manage Hiehart’s erratic behavior, Jujy ends up having to assume the role of a caretaker rather than a student, which distracts her from mastering her mind as her ultimate weapon. Another vulnerability that Jujy has to balance has to do with the fact that her magic is geared toward crisis management rather than combat applications.
2
Ininia
The Undercover Witch Apprentice
- Magic specialty: Healing, time manipulation, and other forbidden magic
- Master: Restys
Ininia is one dangerous witch apprentice who few would want to cross. Besides her skill with forbidden body magic and her capacity to manipulate time, Ininia’s tragic backstory causes her to harbor profound resentment toward the established rules. As a result, she doesn’t shy away from exploring what remains forbidden territory in magical knowledge, as she violates magical laws with the conviction of the most compelling female anime villains in existence.
Nevertheless, Ininia’s unhinged power does have a few built-in brakes. She is heavily dependent on others for obtaining forbidden artifacts and special ink. Moreover, due to the many shortcuts that the Brimmed Caps often resort to, Ininia’s forbidden spells tend to have a highly unstable essence. Overall, despite the dangerous nature of her spells, Ininia’s magic isn’t as stable as the spells of those who learn the fundamentals of magic at the Great Hall.
1
Agott Arklaum
The Aspiring Librarian Witch Apprentice
- Magic specialty: Overall mastery of the elements and complex sigils
- Master: Qifrey
Agott is the rare witch apprentice who has everything under control. Her cool head and analytical mind make her an outstanding asset, as we can tell from Agott’s ability to put Coco’s spell ideas into practice with minimal error. What serves as the driving force behind her strength as a witch apprentice is Agott’s passion for becoming a librarian in the Tower of Tomes and proving her family wrong.
Being one of the key characters in Crunchyroll’s top Anime of the Year contender, Agott has extensive knowledge of magic theory and formulas for spell creation. Her multi-layered spells, precise drawing, and excellent speed make her a powerful witch apprentice. Even though she comes from the prestigious Arklaum family of practitioners, Agott goes above and beyond in carving her own path as a top-notch scholar. Where Agott’s strength hits the wall, though, is her perfectionism rooted in childhood trauma — Agott feels deeply insecure about her magic.
