Their strength and power are leagues above humanity's best hunters, allowing them to fight on the same ground as the rulers. One of them is Sung Jinwoo, the newest Shadow Monarch who upsets the long-standing balance of power between the Monarchs and the Rulers.

Each monarch possesses powerful abilities that are deadly not only to humans but also to their fellow higher beings. From elemental manipulation, instant travel and gigantic transformations to control of the dead, these monarch abilities stand out as the most powerful in Solo Leveling universe.

Gate Creation enables convenient travel across worlds

Gate Creation is one of the most convenient abilities of Monarchs, allowing them to open portals that allow them to travel directly from one place to another. While not exactly an offensive or defensive ability, its true value lies in its strategic utility during combat.

Oddly enough, it's rare to see Monarchs use Gate Creation in actual combat, at least in Solo Leveling manhwa. Instead of using it to reposition themselves on the battlefield or catch their opponents off guard with a surprise attack, they use it primarily for long-distance travel. Rakan uses Gate Creation when he decides to escape from a powerful Sung Jinwoo in the Monarch's War Arc.

Blood crystal absorbs demon souls

Demons are not safe from Baran's Blood Crystal ability, as this attack allows the Monarch of White Flames to absorb their souls and transform them into a source of power that further strengthens his own overwhelming abilities.

While Baran did not use the Blood Crystal in Solo Leveling manhwa, since he was eliminated relatively early in the series, it is still a notable ability attributed to the Monarch of White Flames in Solo Leveling novel.

Ruler's Authority is an ability unique to rulers rather than monarchs, but through a rune stone obtained in the Job Change mission, Sung Jinwoo acquires the Ruler's Hand ability, which he later evolves into Ruler's Authority during his battle with the Architect of the System.

Ruler's Authority is one of the most powerful telekinetic abilities in Solo Leveling. It has a wide range and basically allows Sung Jinwoo to incapacitate opponents, fling them through the air, and manipulate targets at will with invisible power. The Ruler's Authority is so powerful that Sung Jinwoo successfully fixed the giant statues in the Carthenon Temple with it.

Breath of Destruction leaves permanent burns on Jinwoo's body

The Breath of Destruction is one of Antares' ultimate moves Solo Leveling. Breath of Destruction allows him to unleash a devastating flame-based energy blast that can obliterate anything in its path, whether it's a monarch or even one of Sung Jinwoo's shadows.

Even Sung Jinwoo is not completely safe from this attack, as the burns on his left hand stand as proof of its immense destructive power. Besides Antares, Sung Suho can also use the breath of destruction. Even Sung Jinwoo once used the same attack in one of the Solo Levelings side stories, where he became Antares' vessel instead of Ashborn.

Spiritual body manifestation reveals the strongest form of monarchs

Spiritual Body Manifestation is a formidable ability possessed by higher entities, allowing monarchs other than Sung Jinwoo to unleash their true form and fully awaken their hidden strength, revealing their most powerful state in battle. Each spirit body manifestation varies in form, with some monarchs undergoing a complete physical transformation while others simply radiate an overwhelming aura of power.

Unfortunately, human vessels chosen by the Rulers cannot withstand the stresses of Spirit Body Manifestation, as the power it releases far exceeds what their bodies are capable of enduring. Like Christopher Reed and Sung Il-Hwan, they end up dying, while higher entities suffer no such limitation due to their non-physical existence.

Umbrakinesis turns shadows into armor

Umbrakinesis is proof that Jinwoo has complete control over shadows and darkness. It was only after Jinwoo inherited the Shadow Monarch's full power that he gained access to Umbrakinesis. Without his awakening, he would not have been able to utilize this overwhelmed Shadow Monarch ability.

Umbrakinesis, in simple terms, refers to Sung Jinwoo's ability to manipulate darkness and shadows, shaping them into any shape he desires. In the webtoon, Jinwoo uses Umbrakinesis to encase his entire body in armor shaped by shadows, giving him enhanced defense, durability, and greater offensive potential on the battlefield.

Shadow Extraction is Sung Jinwoo's signature ability

Shadow Extraction is Sung Jinwoo's signature skill within Solo Leveling. Without this ability, the shadow army that serves Sung Jinwoo with utmost loyalty and respect would not exist. Besides Sung Suho, only the Shadow Monarch has access to Shadow Extraction, which gives them power and control over the dead by turning fallen enemies into the most trusted allies.

In addition, Shadow Extraction gives Sung Jinwoo the freedom to expand his shadow army without end. Although there are rules and exceptions to shadow extraction, almost every opponent that crosses Sung Jinwoo, especially those with immense strength and abilities, is added to his ever-growing army.
