Tanjiro's orphaned form is a natural survivor
Tanjiro has served as the man of the house in the Kamado household for several years. This enormous responsibility transformed his once fragile body into a remarkably strong one with incredible stamina and endurance. Part of his routine includes climbing up and down the mountain, chopping wood, taking care of his siblings, and helping every villager in need to the best of his ability.
Tanjiro's orphaned body may not be trained in the way of the sword, but it still allowed him to carry Nezuko on his back, withstand her demonic attacks and impulses, and almost outwit the Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka, with his slashing axe. The chores he did during his time at Mount Kumotori proved to be the perfect preparation for his career as a demon slayer.

Long-haired Tanjiro endured Urokodaki's harsh training
Even today, Tanjiro's long hair is greatly missed by fans of Demon Slayer. He only grew his hair long during his intense training under the former Water Hashira, Sakonji Urokodaki, on Mount Sagiri, where he spent months learning water breathing and its techniques.
This was Tanjiro's first time receiving formal sword training, and the demanding exercises transformed him from an ordinary charcoal salesman to a candidate demon slayer. Mount Sagiri was not an easy place to train, given its high altitude, thin air, and unforgiving terrain, but still, long-haired Tanjiro persevered and finally convinced Urokodaki that he was ready for the final selection test.

Tanjiro's Dormant Demon Slayer Mark Form was already so powerful
Unlike Yoriichi, Tanjiro was born without a Demon Slayer Mark. The scar on Tanjiro's forehead was originally caused by a cooking accident before later developing through the battle against the Upper Rank Six in the Entertainment District Arc.
Impressively, prior to the awakening of the Demon Slayer Mark, Tanjiro was already overpowering demons, along with Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke. From defeating the Temple Demon, Hand Demon, and Swamp Demon to decapitating the Spider Demon Mother, Tanjiro finished off all of these enemies with a slumbering demon slayer mark.

Tanjiro's Awakened Demon Slayer Mark Form Defeated Upper Moons
The Demon Slayer Mark greatly enhances Tanjiro's attributes, from speed, strength, senses and durability to striking power. In other words, the demon slayer mark multiplies Tanjiro's total combat ability two or three times more than normal, allowing him to survive ranked demons and eventually defeat them in battle.
With an awakened demon slayer mark, Tanjiro has successfully defeated Gyutaro, Hantengu and even Akaza with a little help from his friends and Hashira. Without the mark, it would not have been possible for Tanjiro to slay these mighty demons, possessing superior strength and endurance.

Tanjiro's selfless state countered Akaza's compass needle
The fights held in Infinity Castle were some of the most brutal and unforgiving in the Demon Slayers story, forcing Tanjiro to rely on the most unconventional forms to win and survive. Through the memories he shared with his father, Tanjiro eventually unlocked the selfless state.
In the battle against Akaza, Tanjiro relied on the Selfless State to enter the Transparent World. In this form, Tanjiro toned down his fighting spirit, killing intent and hostility towards Akaza. He attained a calm state and cleared his mind of all distractions. This condition ultimately disoriented Akaza, leading to his unexpected loss to Tanjiro.

13th form Tanjiro used all 12 sun breath forms
Sun Breathing consists of 13 forms invented by the legendary swordsman Yoriichi Tsugikuni himself. These forms were passed on to Tanjiro, making him the exclusive user of Sun Breathing in the Taisho era. In the final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, Tanjiro eventually used the 13th form of Sun Breathing.
The 13th Form of Sun Breath allows Tanjiro to chain together all 12 forms of Sun Breath to destroy Muzan's 12 vital organs at once. However, the severe injuries Tanjiro received while fighting Muzan prevented him from performing them all at once like Yoriichi, forcing him to perform each form one by one. His version might be weaker, but it was still the key to exploiting Muzan's vulnerabilities.

Demon King Tanjiro surpassed Muzan Kibutsuji
Demon King Tanjiro is the strongest character in Demon Slayeroutclassed Muzan in all respects despite his relatively short screen time in the final arc. He is Tanjiro in demon form, having been injected with Muzan's remaining blood in an act of desperation.
In this evil form, Demon King Tanjiro was leagues above the power level of any character in the series, with all 13 forms of Sun Breath at his disposal, in addition to his Blood Demon Art and his instant resistance to the Sun. If it weren't for Tamayo's anti-demon drug and Tanjiro's strong determination, Demon King Tanjiro would have fulfilled Muzan's original goal.
