Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba is undoubtedly the most popular anime in the last decade. Its cinematic fighting scenes, combined with captivating story, have maintained fans all over the world. Over the past decade, most people have struggled to capture the imagination of anime fans in a similar way. But it changed in 2024 when the popular solo level Manhwa was finally adapted to an anime. Filled with exciting martial sequences like those in Demon Slayer, the series immediately became incredibly famous and has only gained influence after the publication of its season 2 2025.
Solo leveling is often criticized for being hyper-focused on its constantly developing protagonist, but there are also things like Anime does incredibly well. In some aspects, the Manhwa-inspired show is actually better than Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba.
A clear and quantifiable power system
Solo Living Hunter Ranking System is easy to understand
Based on magical abilities, solo-level hunters categorize hunters in different stages, from E to S. This game-like power system is easier to understand and makes the fans better understand characters. Even after Sung Jinwoo undergoes a reconsideration and becomes one of the rare hunters who can dramatically change his rank, his growth is still traceable within the framework of the hunting hierarchy. Although it can be argued that his development eventually makes International Hunter Ranking irrelevant, it still applies to most characters and remains a reliable measure of strength.
Solo Leveling's simplified but easy -to -understand power system allows fans to appreciate the series more. On the other hand, Demon Slayer's fight scenes may look beautiful, but even the most hardcore fans will have difficulty recalling the ranking within Demon Slayer Corps, which is named after a heavenly system. This creates a lack of consistent boundaries and makes it almost impossible to keep track of the power peel. Therefore, the story is to be the main driving force for the character production instead of a consistent, structured system that fans can understand.
Interestingly, an overwhelming majority of hunters are stuck with the rank they were assigned after their awakening. This leaves no room for evolution for them. Because of this, the solo niveness system seems even more simplified, which eventually is the cause of its widespread appeal and accessibility.
Protagonist's independence and stronger growth arches
Jinwoos lonely development makes their journey more intimate for viewers
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba may initially seem to revolve mainly around Tanjiro and his desire to avenge his family. But as the story progresses, characters with different backgrounds are introduced that have endured traumatic experiences and also victims of an endless battle between good and evil. They also get as much limelight as Tanjiro, because their back stories and emotional struggles are beautifully captured, thanks to the anime's captivating story.
At the same time, solo leveling is hyper-focused on Sung Jinwoo from the beginning. It frames his fighters as humanity's weakest hunters and sets the foundation for his transformative journey later. Although it is lonely and isolating, Jinwoos is filled with fulfilling experiences that allow fans to get in touch with him emotionally. Each battle captures its growth and shows its personal sacrifices and resilience.
With each bow Jinwoo transforms as a character while he struggles with his demons. His struggle to keep his humanity feels personal to fans because Hyperfocus on Sung makes his journey feel much more intimate and deeply related.
Global efforts
Solo Leveling explores international conflicts
Located in the Taisho era, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba is limited to Japan. While it brilliantly captures the beauty of the country, the conflict remains limited to the region. This removes the tension in a global conflict involving characters from different nations.
Solo -leveling explores international dynamics by turning to global conflicts arising from other worldly threats. It captures the ugliness of international politics and uses it to allow the protagonist to develop as a person. Therefore, Jinwoo's influence does not remain limited to a nation, and the story investigates the character development he is undergoing to become such a leader.
Finally, global efforts will be a decisive feature of the show's overall story. This also changes the consequences of every battle dramatically. As the world's future is at stake in some arches, history becomes so much more exciting for the fans. It should not come as a surprise that solo -equalizing fans think the series is so captivating. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba could also have benefited from taking the conflict beyond Japan. But it is unclear that it would have had the same positive effect as it had on the solo leveling story.
