Tragedy recently struck a hardcore The Sims 4 fan, who took to the web to lament the loss of his multi-generational family in the game. This would hardly be the first time as one Sims 4 gamers have suffered a major loss at the hands of technical difficulties, as the long-running life simulation project has crossed paths with countless bugs and performance issues over the course of its decade-plus on the market.
Save corruption, and the potential loss of critical data that comes with it, can potentially spell tragedy for Sims player. It has been a particularly visible problem in Sims 4 community in recent years, such as 2023 For rent expansion seemingly introduced a remarkable amount of save-related errors, resulting in many players losing their data. As of October 2025, EA is still investigating these persistent save data errors, but as the aforementioned TikTok user shows, there's still plenty of damage being done in the meantime — whether it's related to For rent DLC or not.
20-generation Sims 4 family wiped out in new update
On November 2, 2025, TikTok user amsextonn posted a short video announcing her “death” Sims 4 family. Amsextonn explains that their sim family had reached almost twenty full generations before they were lost. The short video ends with a shot of a custom cake they had made to commemorate the loss, decorated with the message “RIP Solis Family.”
Understandably, a host of other TikTok users rushed to amsexton's post to express their sympathies, with some joking that the family was “murdered” and others pointing out the absurdity of amsexton's custom cake, which the user is likely already aware of. Other, more serious comments share amsexton's frustration and express disappointment and dismay at EA, the publisher of The Sims 4.
In the video, amsextonn is glassy-eyed and seems heartbroken. While this is probably played for comedy — she seems aware that the Solis family is virtual — there may be a serious dimension to her depression. After all, 20 generations in the game is nothing to scoff at and reflects a level of enthusiasm and commitment that few others Sims 4 fans could match; one can hardly blame amsextonnm for being upset about such a massive loss of progress. We hope there is still some way to remedy the loss.
