ZA's Mega Dimension DLC still hasn't played the biggest ace up its sleeve

Pokemon Legends: ZAs DLC already brings even more new Megas to the game with Mega Raichu X and Y, and the recently revealed Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur. Along with new Megas, Pokemon Legends: ZAs Mega Dimension DLC has also been confirmed to feature a variety of returning creatures, including Golisopod, Corviknight, and Annihilape. While these confirmations are exciting in their own right, perhaps the most exciting recurring additions are still being kept under wraps.

Despite having over 60 Mega Evolutions available in the base game, Pokemon Legends: ZA still missing a handful of Megas that could return in the Mega Dimension DLC. Currently, the only Megas missing from Legends: ZA is:

  • Mega Sceptile

  • The Mega Blaziken

  • Mega Swampert

  • Mega Latios

  • Mega Latias

  • Mega Rayquaza

With how prominent the start Mega Evolutions has been in marketing for Pokemon Legends: ZAit's strange that Megas for Hoenn's starting trio have been absent so far. These creatures are definitely some of the big guns when it comes to popular Mega Evolutions, so it wouldn't be surprising to see them appear as stars in an upcoming trailer.

Pokemon Legends: ZA has not confirmed the return of the Hoenn starters

Before Pokemon Legends: ZAonly Gen 1 and Gen 3 starting trios had Mega Evolutions. With the release of Pokemon Legends: ZAMeganium, Feraligatr and Emboar all gained Mega forms along with the original Kalos starting trio of Chesnaught, Delphox and Greninja. With the Gen 1 starter Megas available in the base game Legends: ZAall that's missing now is the Hoenn trio, which seems poised for a DLC debut.

Mega Chesnaught is still unavailable at this time, as it is planned as a Season 3 reward for ZA Battle Club's online ranked matches.

Hoenn's Starter Trio has been leaked to be in the Mega Dimension DLC

The good news is, according to the Mega Dimension leaks, Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert are all coming back, as are Latios, Latias, and Rayquaza. Even Groudon and Kyogre are set to appear in this DLC, complete with Rogue Mega Battles against their Primal Reversion forms. While it's unclear how players will gain access to the Mega Stones for the Hoenn starting trio, it seems likely that they will be tied to online ranked battles, much like how Kalo's starting Mega Stones have been.

Mega Baxcalibur has been confirmed as a reward for Season 4 of the online ranked battles, meaning players may have to wait until Season 5 for the Hoenn starter Mega Stones.

Mega Sceptile, Mega Blaziken and Mega Swampert seem likely to be online rewards

Pokemon Legends ZA VS PVP

Although controversial at first, the concept of locking Mega Stones behind online battles has proven to be less of a concern than it initially appeared. After Mega Greninja proved quite easy to obtain in Season 1, requiring players to only reach Rank K to obtain Greninjite, Season 2 has made it even easier to obtain these rewards. Greninjite can now be earned simply by reaching rank Y, and Delphoxite has been lowered to a reward for rank S in season 2. Pokemon Legends: ZA players still need to have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription to access these rewards, but otherwise they're very easy to earn.

Even with Mega Baxcalibur slated to be the reward for Pokemon Legends: ZA Season 4, having the three Hoenn starter Megas as future rewards is a great way to extend the life of the game and keep players active in ZA Battle Club after the DLC is released. The popularity of these Megas also makes it likely that the game will use them to lure players into online battles for the foreseeable future. Locking DLC Mega Evolutions behind a paid online subscription might be a controversial move, but Mega Baxcalibur has already set this practice as standard, making it seem all the more likely that Hoenn starter Megas will follow suit.
