Final Fantasy 14-director Yoshi-P has described some of the content that comes in patch 7.2, including Dawntrail's Field Operation and Cosmic Exploration.
-
Yoshi-P also says that the next set of Arcadion Raids will be released in patch 7.2, and teases that they will include mechanics “you can only find in patch 7.x”.
-
Outside Patch 7.2, he also mentions that the development for the game's next Ultimate is underway, and that Square Enix has worked with “different things” for patch 8.x.
Final Fantasy 14 is a bit of a condition right now. There is very little to do right now if you are an avid player, and even less if you are not on the entire Savage raid scene. It has become obvious with the game's drastically declining player figures, which seems to have dropped to levels before Shadowbringers and has most likely already dropped below 1 million.
It is a game in desperate need for a content injection, and many keep their thumbs so that Patch 7.2 can finally have something worth maintaining our subscriptions for. Thankfully, it seems that more relaxed content is on the way, as director Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) has described exactly what the upcoming Patch 7.2 series will have in readiness in its “Stroll with Yoshi-P” interview.
Yoshi-P from Final Fantasy 14 describes content coming in the Patch 7.2 Series
Given that the interview was broadcast in Japanese, Final Fantasy 14-community took on translate and share Yoshi-P's comments on the game's main Discord channel. Yoshi-P begins by repeating that Dawntrail's Field Operation called Occult Crescent will be included as part of the Patch 7.2 series, and that it will include “something related to support jobs”.
In addition, more relaxed content will come alongside it, as Yoshi-P also revealed that Cosmic Exploration will also be added to this upcoming patch series, even if he was unsure whether it would be patch 7.2 or patch 7.25. Anyway, both will be quite relaxed gates that the game has been missing since Dawntrail was launched.

Final Fantasy 14 is not grindy enough
FFXIV players need some new content to put their teeth in and keep them busy.
Yoshi-P then enters in more detail about the next set of Arcadion Raids, which will also be released in Patch 7.2. Although he does not reveal too many details about what to expect, he annoys that they can contain mechanics that “you can only find in patch 7.x”. He specifically mentions to use downtime in interesting ways, and seems to make raids more interesting during these periods.
Finally, outside the Patch 7.2 series, Yoshi-P reveals that the development has already started on the next Ultimate, with the plan “already decided”, while work has been going on for “different things” for 8.X as well. With some manageable raids for temporary players and two major content reductions in Occult Crescent and Cosmic Exploration, Patch 7.2 can finally give us something to do.
