Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 will all receive current upgrades in December. If you already own digital versions of any of these games, you will be able to upgrade them, but since each upgrade is quite unique, the upgrade paths are not all the same.
Sega confirmed that current generation upgrades for the three Yakuza games coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam will be available from December 8, 2025, and that the upgraded versions of all three games will be available to purchase separately. However, it also shared current upgrade details, starting with the game making the most of its incoming upgrade – Yakuza 0.
Trade in your old copies of these Yakuza games for shiny new upgraded ones starting December 8th
The current version of Yakuza 0 to be released on the latest platforms will be the Director's Cut which is currently exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. The Director's Cut includes new cutscenes and a co-op mode along with visual improvements, an English dub and additional language support, which is why, if you already own the base game, the upgrade will cost you $14.99.
Yakuza 0 Director's Cut will cost $49.99 when purchased separately.
The Yakuza 0 upgrade is the largest and most expensive of the three by a significant margin. Kiwami's upgrade is much less. It includes similar additional language support and a couple of tracks not found in the original version. No additional story content, meaning if you already own the game on a last-gen console, you will be able to upgrade for just $1.99.
Kiwami 2's upgrade is even smaller again and simply adds additional language support. That's why it's the only current upgrade of the three, all of which will be released on the same day, it's free if you already own the game. I imagine all three of these games will look better and run smoother on current platforms, so worth picking up, especially the Kiwami 2 upgrade as it won't cost you anything.
7 hardest Yakuza games to 100 percent
You will have a hard time reaching 100 percent completion in these Yakuza games.
Yakuza 0's upgrade version is much cheaper if you buy the game now
Even if you don't already own any of the three Yakuza games getting upgrades, it's not too late to buy the standard versions, and I highly recommend you do. Digital versions of the games purchased by 11:59 EST on December 8th will be eligible for the upgradesand you'll save some money if you pick up Yakuza 0 before then.
The standard version of Yakuza 0 is currently available for $19.99, and its current generation Director's Cut upgrade will cost $14.99. That brings the total to $34.98, which is significantly cheaper than the price of the upgraded game when purchased separately from December 8 onwards. Kiwami and Kiwami 2 are $19.99 now and will remain at that price once they're upgraded, so there's no money to be saved by picking them up early.
