WWE is saying goodbye to Mick Foley, and he says it's because of Donald Trump

The WWE is losing one of its most beloved members, as Mick Foley has announced that he is parting ways with the company, due to its ties to President Donald Trump. Over the years, Mick Foley has graced the WWE stage and excited fans worldwide, but Trump's comments regarding the recent death of director and writer Rob Reiner have caused him to cut ties with the promoter.

Mick Foley is one of the most celebrated wrestlers in the sport. Back in 1996, when it was then known as the WWF, Foley became one of the key wrestlers who would define the Attitude Era. This era marked a turning point for WWE, as it thrust its stars even further into the spotlight and created pop culture icons. Alongside Mick Foley, wrestlers such as “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock and Triple H would become some of the company's biggest icons. Despite being retired, Foley has maintained a relationship with WWE, but he has made it clear that he no longer feels comfortable being a part of the outfit because of Trump.

Earlier this week, American film icon Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were murdered in their home in Los Angeles. Across the internet, fans and colleagues have shared their condolences and fond memories of the director. But President Trump took to his Truth Social page and said Reiner's death was caused by an “incurable affliction with a mind-numbing disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.” The comments immediately ignited intense backlash from both sides of the aisle, and it was ultimately what inspired Foley to leave WWE behind for good. The beloved wrestling icon shared his decision via Instagram. In the caption, he notes that President Trump's comments about Reiner's death were “the final straw.” He went on to say, “I no longer want to represent a company that celebrates a man who seemingly lacks compassion as he marches our country toward autocracy.”

President Trump has had ties to WWE long before he entered politics, even joining the Battle of the Billionaires at WrestleMania 23. In the years since, he has maintained a relationship with Vince McMahon, even going so far as to appoint his wife, Linda McMahon, as his current Secretary of Education. Although he is no longer a mainstay on the roster, Mick Foley's departure from WWE is a huge hit for the company. President Trump's comments are not the only reason for his resignation either. Foley further explained that “I have been concerned about WWE's close relationship with Donald Trump for several months – especially in light of his administration's ongoing cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants.” The comments about Reiner's death were simply what sealed the deal for Foley.

During his time with WWE, Mick Foley has been known by several people. In addition to his own name, he has taken on the beloved characters Cactus Jack, Mankind and Dude Love.

Despite his confirmation that he is leaving the company, it won't be official until June. The wrestling legend explained that his contract is still active until then, but once it expires, he has no intention of signing a new one. It's been a shocking week for WWE fans, as not only has Mick Foley announced his departure, but John Cena's last match ended in a loss. Foley announcing his retirement from WWE will definitely be a sad moment for many of his fans.
