With just a week into the Spring 2026 anime season, fans have already started cheering for several new series, from Hiromu Arakawa's dark fantasy Demons from the Shadow Realm to the long-awaited adaptation of the voltage manga Liar Game. But as popular as these are, Witch Hat Atelier sits atop the current lineupwith viewers eagerly awaiting its debut since the adaptation was first announced way back in 2022. Kamome Shirahama's fantasy manga series has been a smash hit since its first follow-up in 2016, and now even more people are falling in love with its whimsical story and characters. The staff at Bug Films has clearly spared no expense in bringing the magic found within its pages to the small screen.
Kicking off with a two-episode premiere on April 6, Witch Hat Atelier quickly jumped to the top of many viewers' top picks for the season, with the series drawing inspiration from everything from Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings to Studio Ghibli films. It contains an imaginative atmosphere that can be difficult to capture, and there's no doubt that fans will be counting down the hours until a new episode is available each week. Thankfully, it won't be long before we see more of Coco and Qifrey.
Spring 2026 Preview: Witch Hat Atelier
As the winter 2026 anime season draws to a close, eager fans are looking forward to spring, and one series in particular is garnering a lot of attention.
Coco's magical journey has finally begun
From tragedy comes the chance to achieve the impossible
After an unfortunate delay, the series was pushed out of 2025, Witch Hat Atelier is finally here, and its first two episodes did not disappoint. The series follows Coco, an energetic and positive young girl and daughter of a seamstress, who dreams of one day being able to use magic. Unfortunately, she is told that those born without the gift will never be able to learn, and therefore gives up on her dream. That is, until one day a witch named Qifrey shows up on her doorstep looking for fabric. Soon after, Coco learns the secret of magic in the worst possible way – with her mother turned to stone. Desperate to get her back, Coco asks the man to be her teacher, and he forces her to take her to a new life as an apprentice. For those who grew up with Harry Potter and dreamed of one day learning they were witches or wizards, the premise is instantly satisfying.
