Why Enies Lobby is the best arc of the story so far

This post contains spoilers for One Piece.

Thanks to Eiichiro Oda's amazing writing, One Piece has absolutely no shortage of amazing bows. While each arc has its own story, the author makes sure to tie it into what's happening around the world. Otherwise, the overall story can feel a bit lackluster. Needless to say, Oda has been delivering masterpieces for decades, and now the story is finally coming to an end.

One Piece: 7 arcs to come after Elbaf

Elbaf is good, but even bigger arcs come after it in One Piece.

No one knows when One Piece will end, but one thing they do know is that it will be one of the best manga series of all time. Most fans agree that One Piece's strongest point is its story. With so many outstanding story arcs, it's extremely difficult to pick just one. But many prefer Enie's Lobby bow over the rest.

Water 7 helped set the scene

Enie's Lobby arc takes place after the events of Water 7, where the Straw Hat Pirates fall into the evil plan with Spandam and CP9. They wanted to get their hands on the blueprints of the Pluton, one of the ancient weapons with the power to cause widespread damage. They knew that getting the prints wouldn't be easy, so they agreed to go undercover and gain Iceberg's trust. For years, Lucci and his group remained undercover to get closer to Iceberg and reveal the location of the blueprints. Finally, their plan came to fruition in the Water 7 arc, where they captured Franky, Nico Robin, and the blueprints.

The reason Enie's Lobby is so awesome is because of all the events that happened in Water 7. The World Government got hold of the blueprints as well as Nico Robin, both of whom had eluded them for decades. Also, Luffy and his crew couldn't do anything to their opponents, something fans rarely got to experience. When the Water 7 arc ended, the stakes were at an all-time high, and fans couldn't help but feel excited about Enie's Lobby. The tension between Usopp and Luffy only added to the tension.

Why Enies Lobby is the best arc in one piece

As previously mentioned, the Water 7 arc laid the foundation for Enie's Lobby arc. If things hadn't turned out the way they did in Water 7, there's a good chance Enies Lobby would have been just another awesome arc and not reached the levels it did. Enie's Lobby arc wasn't just a fight between the Straw Hats and CP9, but rather it was a demonstration of the fight between the good guys and the bad guys. The Cipher Pol agents had not only taken Robin, but they had also taken Franky. Also, they had looked up Iceberg, arguably the most beloved person in Water 7. That's why family members Franky and Galley La came with the Straw Hats.

When the Straw Hat Pirates reached Enie's Lobby, Spandam warned them of the consequences, and he also made it clear that any further transgressions would be severely punished by the World Government. But Luffy was only concerned with saving Robin, so he asked Sogeking to shoot down the World Government flag. It was a declaration of war against the organization, and it instantly became an iconic moment.

Luffy vs Rob Lucci in Enie's lobby

Enie's Lobby arc also had some great fights between the two sides, with Lucci vs. Luffy and Zoro vs. Kaku as the most iconic. However, the main highlight of the arc was Robin's development as a character.

  • She spent most of her life on the run from the authorities, but when she saw the Straw Hats' devotion, she finally decided that life was worth living.

Robin had found a home and people who would risk their lives for her. The arc also included a Buster Call, which was used by Spandam to stop the Straw Hats. For Nico Robin, it brought back some unpleasant memories. The last time she was in one, her entire island was destroyed. But the second time was different. The Straw Hats protected her with their lives.

The destruction of the enemy lobby shocked the world government

The Enies Lobby Incident sent waves across the world

One Piece - Five Elders Bowing to Me Sitting on the Empty Throne-2

Enies Lobby was one of three main World Government facilities, which is why it was heavily guarded. When the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies defeated CP9 and the Marines, it set off a chain reaction. The World Government became wary of Luffy and his crew's power. The organization increased the Straw Hats' rewards, increasing their infamy.

The destruction of Enies Lobby was a slap in the face of the world government. The organization got a real reality check and the higher ups realized they had to be careful. Otherwise, it wouldn't be long before they would become the laughingstock of the world.
